On the same subject, Tokoloshe, I remember going to this first event at Norman’s Law using your map. Excellent area and map. It was the 1974 Scottish Universities Champs run by St.AUOC with 45 M-Univ and 17 W-Univ runners from Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot Watt, St. Andrews, Stirling and Strathclyde uni’s. I wonder how many of these are still orienteering? I don’t recall the area being particularly tough but only 5 men beat 10 mins/km. The results say that “one of the controls on the moor was interfered with and slept on by cows overnight and the code letter of another control seemed to have been eaten. Happy days.

You'll be pleased to hear that when we arrived the farmer came out to tell us one of the controls had fallen victim to bovine vandalisation. Plus ca change...
I have the map from that SUSF - the area isn't tough, but they weren't kidding with the climb!

Graeme, when you found the vandalised control, did you have to replace it with anudder one?
Having just seen the results, glad the event went OK.

I missed Norman's Law, but was sent up there to look for the boulders that were on the old map and not the new one. A good day out .
Yes a striking change in style and interpretation. One of the joys of having built up a big map collection is looking back to the old ones and seeing the way things have changed.
Now to compare Dalbeatie of JK80 with today
