Just to add a couple of pet hates that seem to be specific to the UK:

- Way too many controls in general (M21L courses will usually have 25-30 controls, ok the areas are often small but on almost every single one you could have cut 5-10 controls) NB enjoyment should not be measured by the number of controls visited!

- Controls "somewhere random" on broad features, e.g. "fence" (somewhere on the fence) or "reentrant" (when the thing is huge and shallow so the middle of the reentrant does not exist). Controls should be on exact bits of the features, eg fence end or fence corner or whatever. I've had controls called "reentrant" with only white in the circle, because the reentrant was so broad the contour lines were outside the circle!
