What do other regions do where they have old age class trophies which they will award but the new regional junior age classes are not fully correlated for example:
M10/W10 = JM2/JW2 OK
M12/W12 = JM3/JW3 OK
M14/W14 = JM4/JW4 OK
M16/W16 = JM5S/JW5S OK
JM5M = M18
JM5L = M20
JW5L = W20
So there is 1 JW class missing (JWM5). What should the W18's enter to be competitive to win a trophy for the old age class?

not quite - from the Sutton Park details:
with the first W18 on JW5L picking up the trophy etc
think the JM5S was introduced to bridge the distance gap between the old M14A and M16A - sure it's on another thread somewhere
Midlands Champions will be decided on the 30 BOF age classes M/W 10 to M/W75
Note that junior classes should enter courses as per -
Junior Classes Course
M/W10 JM2, JW2
M/W12 JM3, JW3
M/W14 JM4, JW4
W16 JW5S
M16 JM5M
W18 / W20 JW5L
M18 / M20 JM5L

Phil - I think it works a bit different to that in the older ages. From my observation its the JM5S course which goes spare and it should read like this
M16= JM5M
W16=JW5S
M18/M20 =JM5L
W18/W20 =JW5L
That's what my kids seem to be running anyway. JM5S is just a step up for the lads to the longer distances (I think) and is not generally used as a championship standard course.
hope that helps.
Oh just seen guests post - we seem to agree

Guest and Mrs H. are right - that's the correlation as planned. JM5S was brought in to provide (a) advanced younger junior boys with a TD5 course at an appropriate distance (learning to race rather than plod round longer courses, aimed at M12/14) and (b) to give older juniors not ready/wanting to compete on the long courses a short course at a technical level that would provide challenge wanted.

Thanks for the replies but say Jane Smith who is a W18 and wants to be competitive to win the W18L trophy. She enters JW5L, how does the entry team know that she is a W18 and not a W20 or even vice versa (she is a W20 wanting to compete for the W20L trophy). Do you have an extra field on the entry form for this ? as I cannot see it working otherwise as no BOF age classes will have been recorded.

Get people to fill in year of birth on the SEF, if you're using that? Can't be too difficult to work out...

Most, if not all, entry systems use a copy of the BOF membership details so that age classes are pulled in automatically when the entry is put on the system.
If you look at the junior start lists for the Sutton Park event on Sunday you will see that they all have the juniors actual age class next to their names.
So not really a problem, and unless you aren't a BOF member no need for year of birth.
Wouldn't entries be so much easier if everyone was a member of BOF !

Looking at Sutton Park -isn't the junior entry poor. Is it just half term but only one competitor on JW3 none on JM1 and 1 on JW1 it doesn't suggest a growth in junior O in the midlands as you'd expect there to be more entries for the champs- it's a good job the start weekend doesn't clash or interland!
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Could this be anything to do with the fact that it costs twice as much to pre-enter the Badge courses as it does to turn up on the day and enter the Colour Coded ones ?
Same courses. Pre-marked maps for both. The only reason for a junior pre-entering the Badge course is if they think they stand a chance of winning.[/quote]

in this family lack of Sutton Park entry is definitely due to half-term; we're leaving tonight!
But half-term does seem to have skipped forward a week this year, as generally it's the BUOC/HOC C4 WM event towards end of Feb. that gets low entry because of it. Maybe the early half term wasn't forseen when the dates were set.

Ditto

but half term has always been this week for us. Today is Mr H's birthday and last year we celebrated with an indescently large "Haus Platter" at a lovely austrian restaurant.
