Public transport sucks

what this boils down to is that the (mountain) bike is far superior to any other form of transport. this is a point i have always tried to stress to people, people being my mum( go on mum it's fun ). case in point top gear when they race a car against a mountain biker against a car through a spanish town. mountain biker wins.

i'm likin the sound of the scotish 4000. might need to train a bit for it though.

bit of a punter . i gave him the idea for it though.

(i think- we were driving back from a half marathon while he was training for london, and the topic of conversation to keep us awake was great moments from top gear. next thing i know - a couple of months later - he starts calling himself "clarksons nemesis" on the club forum and then emails us to tell us to watch top gear on sunday)

Its about man versus machine, or man versus mountain, muscle power not bloody poncing around in cars.

There used to be this student thing ( official BUSA event and everything !!) The British 3 peaks, you had to run the Ben, Sca Fell Pike and Snowdon within 24hrs hitching in between. It was a late 80s thing. Can't remember the record tho

Of course the real deal would be to run and cycle the route...

Absolutely only idiots would suggest racing around in cars. Getting somewhere by public transport though, that is a challenge.

I did do it hitching, in a little over 34 hours but that included stopping for a nights sleep in Keswick. 24 is possible, but with hitching you just don't know what you are going to get. Anyway I don't remember there being any official BUSA thing - I was just doing it to avoid thinking about my finals.

On an Interland trip I went on John Rye showed us his video of the three peaks yacht race. They had to row the last 15 miles or so up Loch Linnhe and then run up and down the Ben chasing this other team and caught them on the way down. Great stuff.

maybe a race from the top of appleton tower to the top of jcmb:

-fat people use the lifts & shuttle bus

-fast people run and cycle

I had heard that someone was going to race the lift up the art's tower in sheffield. It would be a good race against the patanosta but I think the normal lift would be a bit too hard because the staircase has lots of corners. Maye worth a try though.

Doesn't the lift in the arts tower not stop though, so pushing all the buttons for everyfloor, wouldn't help much...
