g'day
I've just found out that I'm going to be moving back to the UK this year (in May), as I have a post-doc position in Cambridge (hoping that the paperwork causes no problems), and was just wondering how things are for running training etc, (both orienteering and general track / x-country).. And even though i'll be working at the uni, i won't be a student so I guess it is also what exists outside the university circles?
Plus, anyone need a relay runner for the Scottish (and following years for jk etc). Don't listen to comments about past reputation - I haven't been disqualified in a relay for years.
Also what non-uni clubs are there, etc.
Basically any info gratefully received!!
... and I don't claim i'll be very active orienteering, so far one event since last years boc at Penhale, but I have been running a fair bit...
Cheers

fantatsic news fella, good to hear you are rejoing in the fold.
is the reason you haven't been dsq'd from a relay for years the fact that you haven't run any?!?
good luck with the post doc thing, does it come with a nice french assistant?
see you on your return!

Hi Fish,
Congrats on the postdoc, who will you be working with? I know a few people over there at the moment - do you know Arwen Deuss then, she was at Oxford when I was there, now at Cambridge.
Don't know much about the O possibilities as I hadn't taken it up when I was there, but the uni x/c club should cater for your running needs. There's a distinct lack of hills or decent terrain as far as I recall (used to do reps over the motorway bridges!) but Wandlebury is well worth seeking out. There are always very good runners to train with in the uni x/c club, and there's a decent (if a little windy) track.
The uni O club seems to be thriving, I crashed their training camp in the Lakes before Christmas. Not sure how active they are re training or races in general but it's a start. As for non-uni clubs, CLOK is fast becoming the new uk super-club...
Catchya soon,
Pippa
