Happy New Year everyone - just looking at the year ahead and what events to enter. thinking about night champs and FCC1. Do any of you BKO/Army folk know anywhere we could park up the H van over night. A quick scan of local camp sites suggests the owners are all taking a well earned break in Barbados during January. We are very self-contained and well bahaved and just need a bit of car park or something where the old bill won't trouble us atb.
If you've already looked around, I can't really suggest anything else - campsites are few and far between around here, and it's not exactly the height of the tourist season. The problem is that there have been so many traveller 'incidents' that most places are sewn up a bit. I'll pass your message on to the organiser to see if we can suggest anything (event car parks are a bit of a no-no for these events).
On a slightly different note for accommodation, I have received a note from the manager of Streatley Youth Hostel, http://www.yhastreatley.org.uk, saying that they are open and have plenty of space and are very happy to take bookings from orienteers. They are fairly close to the National Event - about 20 miles from the British Night Championships.
How about trying some of the river/canal cruising companies who operate on the Thames or Kennet and Avon canal. They often have parking areas for people who take boat holidays which I believe operate all year. Thames near Streatley/Goring/Wallingford or Canal around Newbury/Hungerford are both quite close.
