Aye, think it would be a good idea.

completely forgot about that. why not just give the british blodslitet event the name of british ultra-long champs, keep it at end of year - hey presto, gg is british champion!

Oooh, maybe if we keep inventing new British Champs disciplines I'll eventually win one?!
Seriously, isn't another discipline just kind of devaluing the British Champs status? Nothing wrong with bigging up Blodslitet to be a race everyone would want to go to (the maps looked ace by the way, shame it clashed with Lakeside) but another British Champs? Too many I'd say.

Not in my opinion, it would just bring us up to what most other countries have:
Sprint
Middle
Long
Ultra-Long
Night
Relay
What values British Championships (BEOC anyway) is the fact that they are only that by title, rarely does everyone go. the BAOC BEOC weekend last year was very good, but still the top few weren't there... but there is nothing we can or should do about this as our top athletes have to focus on the internationals.. Something that I agree with.

only the butterfly loops were, and on ours it was only two loops, half did one first half did the other, but still was a great event. Also, yeah bring on an ultralong boc, would be ace!

Glad you liked the maps - I produced them at home on my Epson 2100, as I did for the event last year at Helsington Barrows. When you are producing a run of 2 maps per variant - the A course - using a more 'commercial service' makes no sense.
The numbers at this years event were up from the 106 last year and there is some debate within South Ribble as to whether it should be held yearly or every two years.

We didn't lose money on this years event so that is not a problem. It would be good to have feedback on the features/design elements that competitors want. (Am I opening up a can of worms....)
I'll start, good TD5 terrain (probably means the Lake District), good planning/controlling and good maps but what else....
I don't really mind if it stays an 'undiscovered secret' my mainstream UK orienteers - a bit like the the JOK Sprints... as long as those in the know respect what we put on.
Anybody spot the ex world champion competiting last Sunday?

And nobody will care. Actually, as Mharky says we've reached that stage already: a zillion British champs: and for the "top athletes" nobody goes, nobody knows, nobody cares.
(If you think you care, then, without looking it up - who are the current British Champions?)
So why not have a long-O championships? It is as valid as any other.
Graeme (former winner of the US long-O championships, as if anyone cares)
