CompassSport - the end?
I'm very sad to read this morning that Suse and John are packing up CompassSport at the end of the year. I am very sure the sport will be the poorer without it.

Yes, great pity...
Now then.... - who do we know with a journalistic background who could possibly take it over.

Well actually.... I was asked but decided I couldn't face the pains in the neck I'd get from certain folk here every time an edition came out - I did however offer my unstinting support in whatever capacity (unpaid) to anyone else who would take it on. Like HP said at the Dev Conf - I don't want a job ....it's not that I don't work as hard as anyone else for orienteering - but once you start getting paid you have to play to someone else's tune

It was such a pity when Ned Paul had to sell up to Suse Coon. Ned had a real flair for the job, but working on his own he was never able to meet the deadlines for publication.
Unfortunately it is a symptom of the state of the sport at the moment. We just don't have enough folk taking part. We need to double our membership, soon, if we are not going to see other parts of the sport go down the swannie!
It is all very well saying things are not as bad as that.... what crisis.... things are fine, we are OK with the active orienteers we have at the moment. No we're not, there is a crisis, and we need to address it rigorously, energetically and purposefully...... NOW. Lets have some leadership from our main officials!!!
