Wattok a great idea
I reckon that 'guests' should be allowed to post, but that they should sign off with at least their nickname, if not their real name (so they can be identified when they are making personal attacks).
Also, and I know it'd spoil a bit of the fun, but how about having a section in the 'profiles' allowing users to put their real name? Not forcing them to, mind you. I reckon that it'd facilitate communication between orienteers, especially in sensible discussions, and it would allow relative newcomers to the sport (such as myself) to know who the 'daddies' are.*
(That said, I liked it at the S6D when it was pointed out to me exactly who 'Wattok' and the like were. Until then, I'd imagined 'Wattok' to be a strange being from outer space, like one of those creatures in the background of that weird bar in the original Star Wars. I'm also still intrigued as to whether 'G' really is a bald smiley man or merely a student dosser...)

Old fogey mumbling...
I'm a bit puzzled by anyone wanting to post anonymously.
I can see that you might want to hide your identity in a sex fantasy forum, or if you were playing in a web-hosted multi-player game. But to remain deliberately anonymous in a forum which is supposedly dedicated to reasonably serious discussion of orienteering matters strikes me as odd. It's not as if there's a death squad out there hunting for deviants.
For me, any contribution which is headed 'Guest' and which is not immediately followed by another posting saying: "Sorry, forgot to log in!", carries very little weight.
I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to do it; just that it devalues their contributions.

Anonymity is a core element of web browsing which is something which we used to have as a right throughout the whole internet.
Now more and more sites are forcing users to register and enter personal information so people can be identified.
Maintaining the option for user's to hide their identity is very important to us despite the various disadvantages and disruptions this causes.
nopesport is loosely controlled anarchy.

pingu: that is only if it is a registered user that is posting as a guest.
From standard guests we can gather ip information. From ip's we can gain a rough geographical location but this can be spoofed with anonymous proxies if the user really wants to. However most dont know / care about this.

We work out who's worth listening to on the basis of what they say - regardless of whether they're a Guest or not. (don't we - Rob F?)

Maybe...
