The Olympics is the best show on earth. Fact.

It's great news that London's has got it. The heavy emphasis in the bid on the legacy of the games (both attitudinal and in terms of facilities) and participation should be reasons for Orienteers to cheer, not bemoan. This is an opportunity. Seize it.

"does it look good on tv?" and "will it attract lots of sponsors to bring some money in?"

Then make it. There has been no end of discussion on this board about how that could be done. The Orienteering community as a whole must lobby to get it included as a demonstration sport (if its a possiblity - I am not sure whether it is or it isn't).

In terms of areas to use, you've got the pick of the whole South East (if not further afield). Football qualifying, for instance, is at Hampden, Villa Park, Millenium Stadium, St. James' Park (Newcastle, not Exeter). There is no need to stick close to the Olympic Village.

Definitely good news.

I am sure Olympics sport is all about TV coverage but by 2012 we will have miniature everything so that all competitors will be able to have ½gm cameras glued to their noses with 2gm transmitters behind the left ear beaming coverage back to the world via satellite links and GPS producing live routes on big screens at assembly and to TV.

We should start preparing now
