WM relays

Oh dear - the results are up and appear to bear little resemblance to those on the day because of the following
that's a bit of a bummer for those who spent hours thrashing around in the nettles to find the right number isn't it?
Control 138, being in the wrong place, those who punched another control (137 or 134) or missed it have been reinstated.

But no problem for those who navigated straight to the control site and didn't even realise the control code was wrong until they were disqualified at the finish
Agreed I retired as it took me so long to find the control, it wasn't just 138 though 137 was a depression on the other side of the knoll. But they moved the controls part way through, My son and and fellow competitor went back to look after the event.
The amendment was supposed to have been made prior to prize giving. There will be three very upset girls who were presented with the AD HOC trophy.
The new results made a mockery of it now.Perhaps the relays affected by that should be voided. Leaving just junior relays and poss vet women in tact.
There were several who were caught out by a course overprint covering a stream elsewhere, this is another issue but on the whole the day turned into a farce. This further change of results after the presentation has just taken it to the depths now.

yeah but it's the competitors duty too check not just assume it's right - I can't see how this re-instatment can hold up

Although I feel a sorry for OD. Ultimately the area was unsuitable for relays in June- probably at any time due to the constraints of the lakes. There were too many controls. 22 in 4K on a relay is a little OTT. I know more were required due to need to utilise the odd area but there were 3-5 not required on my course. The error of the first controls should have been sorted before any prizes were given, and a wrongly placed control shouldn't be corrected in the middle of an event.
The Pre event info was poor. No reference as to relay start times, no reference to distance to walk to assembly, no course distances given. Also if you didn't know the area there was no info about toilet provision. I suspect the organiser was not experienced but they've been to events and should have added this info.
Now everyone is miffed, it is usually a fun low key sociable event within the region, but the nettles plus the cock ups have created upset all round.
I think protests were not made formally due to the spirit of the event, however now the results have changed again I expect a whole new can of worms to be opened up.

Looking at the published results it appears that only the Ad Hoc trophy was awarded to the wrong team at the prizegiving. Which, as stated in an earlier posting, is very unfortunate for the three HOC girls involved.
What is also apparent, and has been seen at other events were there have been problems, is that the more experienced orienteers seem to suffer far less from these problems (cf. comment about not even realising the control code was wrong), and the best teams usually win anyway.

What was that about planning and controlling standards
?
Maybe because they are more used to the problems?

Or that they don't check control descriptions

Obviously not as a large no of names well known to you were on the list of disqs. In fact at one point it seemed that there might only be about 5/6 non junior teams that were not Disq. It was first time I've done a relay with Emit and thumb compass and it was a real pain to unravel the map to check descriptions. I nearly went back to start to either get base plate compass or pen & paper.

Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.
