i must say I remember some smaller concerts as being paricularly good - not legendary maybe - like that Brothers in Arms tour - (we'd never heard sound quality like it in a big venue - it was the Sony CD launch flagship)

There was Ian Dury and the Blockheads - possibly 1978 in sheffield
and Emmylou Harris in Birmingham - probably '76 - we met them in a pub after and got a lock in - ah legends indeed

which legends of rock have you seen live ?

The Stone Roses. Twice.

First time was their first ever Scottish gig in a tiny, long-forgotten venue somewhere off Sauchihall Street, and they absolutely tore the roof of the place. Second time was a year later in a 7000-capacity marquee on Glasgow Green when they'd just started on their long downward spiral. They still sounded OK, but they'd lost whatever it was that made them special. If they'd quit at that point they'd have had the perfect rock career.

Boomtown Rats who were the support band for Elvis Costello. Cambridge Cornmarket circa 1976. Cans of beer getting thrown everywhere. Elvis Costello going off sulking because of all the missiles. Rats were better than Costello on the night.

Not rock I know, but Jean Michel Jarre at Coventry Cathedral about '75. Most atmospheric concert ever.

Never saw Dire Straits, they are legend, no one has a right to knock them. Telegraph Road - all time great.

Dire Straits are amazing! Closed legendary gig I've been to is the Manics at the corn exchange earlier this year! 1hour 45min set with tons from the Holy Bible...amazing!

I think I'd better own up - my first CD (as opposed to LP) was Love Over Gold. I don't play it very often but it's still pretty good. I also like their previous albums - but I think Brothers In Arms marked the start of their decline.

Now this is really posey, but when I was at college in Oxford, there were two local up-and-coming bands that I used to go and see all the time in a little room over a pub - The Jennifers and On a Friday - who later became Supergrass and Radiohead! What's more, Simon Hunt of TVOC and JOK actually played with his band on the same bill as Radiohead (at what I believe was their first ever gig playing under that name...) - so he's the legend really...

Lindisfarne 1978 at Newcastle City Hall. Best atmosphere ever. Christmas doesn't get any better.
When the lights turned round onto the audience for 'Clear White Light' the place went wild.

which who concert did you go to Klebe - i saw them at De Monfort Hall Leicester in (about)1975 (Jesus Christ that 30 years ago )

at college we saw Spencer Davis, argent the (something) miller band - can't remember, ha ha ha and Mud played at our ball - they were BRILL (just love those tiger feet) we danced till dawn.

You see whilst Dire Straits make very fine music and eveyone likes to listen to it (Sultans is the anthem of a certain generation of british juniors (along side Peaches by the Stranglers!)) the problem is that your parents like them too.

its like REM, Travis, Coldplay, etc. etc (I can't think of any others they all blend)
not exactly underground or reactionary !
when did anyone's mum walk in on a kid playing Coldplay and say " turn that down ! you can't even understand the words !"

I saw a good review on Gorillaz' album, anyone heard it ?
