Now the Welsh event is a junior selection race for Interland and it has also been suggested to me by someone who may be in the know that it would also be used as "Any other known form" for selection to next year's world schools.

Selection for select teams will be based on the 2 qualifying races. Other form may be considered, but will only be used where selectors feel unable to make a decision based on the qualifying races. If so, only the Aire National event on 11th September and the Regional event on 6th Nov in the New Forest will be used.(These are both Interland selection races as well)

Obviously not as in the know as they (or you) thought!

Well at least they seem to have managed to sort the dates out for the events to be taken into consideration - it looked a bit daft naming events that weren't in the fixture list - as guest pointed out.
I did say it was a suggestion - not a fact.
I'm afraid BSOA will be the losers as the Score will prove to be the expendable event.

That's very ungenerous- the issue was addressed before your post went up, and before you started spreading wrong rumours based on unreliable sources!

Cobblers Mrs H. All somebody along the line did was slip in one wrong date, which was rapidly corrected. Which event that was was obvious, and both were in the fixtures list.

"From somebody who may be in the know", which is what the razz was about. At that stage that can only be a selector. Nobody else can be in the know, although they might have ideas.

The Score Champs has never been used for all known form, or as a selection race, so there's nothing to "lose" by it not being so now. And quite rightly too IM (not so!!) HO: trying to select for a World Schools (cross-country O-) event on a score event whose purpose is primarily developmental would not make a lot of sense.

As for a 'clash', BSSOC has regularly 'clashed' with other events, so doing so with a regional event many miles away that is being used for one of several Interland selection races is trivial, especially as they are aimed at different target groups.

Just to put the record straight - the AIRE National is on 10th September.

Discussions on this forum can be interesting, witty, funny etc but when they are speculative they can be at their least helpful as AWK has pointed out.

Everyone is given details about selection races well in advance of the dates so that family, school and squad trips can be planned. Was it really necessary to stir this up in mid May when most people are still thinking about the summer and all the facts are not known? If this was an attempt at 'BOF Bashing' this was way off line as all the selectors are volunteers and do the 'job' as part of their commitment to the sport.

this is a quote from an e-mail sent out by the actual selectors - as I'm sure HP can confirm

I would say that qualifies as " a suggestion from someone who may be in the know".

I fail to see how this is BOF bashing or rumour spreading. I asked for clarification and got it. Once you and HP pointed out that the Score was of no importance to selection to either interland or world Schools i said:

and continued to point out that the score will get the thin end of the wedge because some people who might have gone will save themselves for the following day about which I'm sure BSOA will be disappointed. It is an event we as a family have always enjoyed.

As for the date of the race being wrong - it was certainly wrong when the link was posted in from this thread - because i looked at it - the issue wasn't addressed at that point so how can it be cobblers? - it made me laugh anyway!

Get a grip - people have a right to ask why certain decisions have been made and what the thinking is behind them - not getting answers to the questions is the reason BOF central have got themselves into the mess they have - all you had to do was point out the truth not come back with a raft of snidey, bullying (and anonymous) accusations. It does you no favours! Read through the thread again. I asked which event stood for what. which would be the best to go to and then expressed disappointment that the score would lose out to the Welsh - what is wrong with that?- you should both be ashamed of yourselves

I can see now where you got that idea from. But I would suggest that an email which says

they MAY use SOME of the Interland selection races as 'all known form' if this is required"

is pretty substantially removed from saying that the SWOC event specifically

WOULD also be used as "Any other known form" for selection to next year's world schools.

Ashamed of what? Of suggesting in my last posting that you were being ungenerous in a comment you made about the selectors? Of pointing out that your initial post was spreading 'wrong rumours' (which it seems even clearer now it was, inadvertantly or otherwise)?

As to the right to ask why decisions are made and what the thinking is behind them - of course! But at least let people make and announce those decisions first! And if you want clarification, then at least initially ask them directly, not via a bulletin board which they may not even read.

I know that Guest brought BOF into this, but please don't mix up BOF central with the BSOA.

As for getting a grip: I'm not the one using words and phrases like "paranoid ramblings", "control freaks", "snidey", "bullying". Come on Mrs H., if that's your response to a couple of mild strictures about your use of words, then maybe you should check the meaning of the word "paranoid" again! As I am organising a major club development project in the autumn and have 3 children interested in selection it is certainly not too early for me to be looking ahead.

Pedantic - moi? Well....maybe just a little Although, being a teeny weeny bit pedantic, I prefer to look at it as seeking after accuracy, even if others might not! Problem with being one is that it's too easy to get hoist by one's own petard, but that's something one learns to cope with.

We'll just have to agree to disagree about interpretation - shows how difficult it can be to reach full understanding when just using written medium.

Re Junior Fixture Congestion

This seems to me to be a storm in a tea cup stirred up for no apparent reason.

The BSSC05 and the Interland selection race do not clash - they are on separate days. (Doh!)

The BSSC05 is being organised by DVO on Saturday 8 October 2005 and promises to be an enjoyable event for juniors of all abilities.

That much smaller group of juniors which may be invited to attend the Welsh badge event can easily do so as this is event is on the Sunday. With the excellent road network in this country and in Wales you can easily attend both events. The choice is yours ( Or more probably the choice is the parent taxi driver's)

For those who do not want to go Wales you can stay in Derbyshire and compete in the DVO District event at Carsington Pastures and Harborough Rocks the next day. This is an intricate open area and provides excellent orienteering. DVO are even offering to find accommodation (Scout Hut, Village Hall etc) for any group wishing to stay overnight after the BSSC05.

Parents - you know your place - stop whingeing and get behind that wheel - forget any other things you might have had on your own agenda like organising or helping at events for your own club - let alone other family commitments like ageing parents/grandparents - what's 6+ hours of driving over the two days anyway

Agree with guest 2 about juniors being invited. Since when did that happen? Who needs an invite to go to a selection race..... not even the GBR Seniors for WOC selection require an invite:)
