Don't worry he'll be having a hard enough time of it. Very little sleep in the first 5 weeks, no weekends off. Lots of blisters. But you are right - the orienteering is seen as a bit of down time by most of the cadets (those that are fit and don't mind the running involved). They do it in trainers and they don't have to carry weight. (and they do it round the barracks).
Wonder if he does take to it though? I reckon he'll just do polo this term actually though - as they have an awesome set of horses at RMAS for cadet use.
