OK... I've tried to keep out of this... the results were jobbie... one podium position amongst them all... the French doing as they did!!!
It was crap... like WOC 2001 when I was asked how we did ... I said crap... but wasn't meant to say that...
Dids is 100% correct to ask the question........
And GB basking in self glory is jobbie

kind of agree with gross. don't want to be too critical cos a few of the athletes are good friends; however i had some high expectations after what i perceived to be some world class performances from many of the guys in the world cup team in the domestice races - nick at BEOC sprint, Oli in BEOC and JK middle, Craney in various races....
so the world cup results were a bit dissapointing. this isn't a slight against the athletes because we know they are capable of the performances required - maybe there just needs to be a proper analysis of what was done right and what was done wrong in terms of preparation. with regards to media coverage it seems that these races highlighted orienteering to the public better than ever before.... it's a shame that there weren't that many Team GB top results to go with this coverage.

I think the news item on BOF website says a lot:)
Just to give a flavour of how competitors appreciated the efforts of the Organising Team in providing a superb World Cup here is the content of an e-mail sent to the Organisers. Dear All, As the Team Manager of the GBR 'O' Team I would like to thank you all very very much for what was an absolutely fantastic World Cup. I collected a few quotes from the team (and others). Helen Winskill said: "Brilliant events and organisation....had a great time" Matt Crane said: "Really well planned challenging courses" Dave Peel (Head Coach) said: "Great to bring the team to such quality events" Oli Johnson said: "Like a well oiled machine" Sarah Rollins said: "It felt more like a World Champs than a World Cup" Helen Bridle said: "Really well planned, I loved the courses" Mats Haldin said: "I was very satisfied, a good event, I saw no problems" I hope that gives a feel for how pleased everyone was with the way things went. On the build up to the event we developed the following phrase to show how confident and pleased we where to be racing in Britain. "I'm British, I'm racing at home and I'm proud" Well guys, you made us very proud to be just like you, British Orienteers. Regards, Dave.
These guys are at the sharp end & know what makes a good event & afterall ultimately the WC is for the athletes.
It will be a long time before GB hosts such a major orienteering competition again.... so I guess now is the time to stop looking for errors & let BOF bask in some glory for a bit..... but not too long:)
