Body found at Bentley
Will this affect BUSA? There was one at Brocton just before the YBT and that was fine.

Definitely not the same Bentley - - the one on the news is in Worcestershire. As I came past the BUSA Bentley on my way home from shopping this morning it looks as inviting as ever with the bracken down and the greenery of the bluebells up. Looking foward to Saturday when my stint on the Start will earn me a run round the woods afterwards! See you there.

A serial killer in Australia was tracked down when the bodies started turning up.
A victim was found by a mapper - some 10 years or more ago.
Mapping is the most likely activity to lead to discoveries... There was an IRA arms cache in Macclesfield Forest in the 1980's.. I wonder if that was discovered by a mapper.. Seem to have a vague recollection.

well those bodies wernt found by a mapper, but a few older orienteers out on a training run. The New South Wales orienteering federation has a hut in this forest, thus it is used by many orienteers. The guy who found the first one, just thought it was a dead roo or something, but smelt a bit different so he went to have a look!!! they called the cops and another body was found nearby. Most of the forest was then searched but nothing else was found. A couple of months later a woodchopper found another skull, this time the cops searched a bit more throughly and dug up 5 or 6 more bodies. Many orienteers were actually interviewed by the police, including the mapper (the map happened to be called Excutioners Drop, which i dont think helped) in the end it was some serial killer with the help of some of his brothers. The orienteers still use these forest frequently, and if you are in the right spots on the map, the memorials and crosses can freak you out a bit when running. The annual national junior camp used to be held there, not many kids would venture out on the night trainings....

Thanks for that.. Sadly this was one of the few times our sport has been covered in the mainstream media.
It was always at the baclk of my mind when out mapping - happening upon something dangerous or unpleasant.
