Posted this somewhere else, but thought it may be a good discussion point on it's own
With people wanting more and more live results, has no one suggested running a second monitor from the download computers that can be seen by spectators. it could scroll through the age classes to give the current standings.
Make it look a bit like those ones you get on train stations. Sure it wouldn't be too hard or expensive now that were all on e-cards, and old monitors go for pennies if you go the right place.

yeah a damn good idea if you ask me, would take away the hastle of getting the poster paste out... and would be better as everyone may actually be able to see the results without squinting at the tiny print like at this weekends events.

Dead Easy - with some auto scroll webpages.
For Si the next version of OE200X will have a autotimer webpage producing module
I have clients chucking out 17inch monitors like they are waste paper at moment.
Ive looked into a 4 way VGA splitter with 4 screens.
The results would be semi live set to an interval - probably 2 mins or so.
The biggest problem is where to put them so you can get near by under cover..
You'd have to be reasonbly close to see them.
Also bright sunlight would be a problem.
Any thoughts ?
Ill try it at the next chasers event

Been thinking.
If you had a covered platform about 1800mm high, with places for 4 monitors on opposing sides angled down.............
Anybody want to do the carpentry, Ill do the tech ?

My initial thought was that you'd end up with hundreds of people trying to squeeze around one screen but with more it would be less of a problem. If you were prepared to drive the system off a desktop rather than a laptop you could have a different set of results on each display. Also, if the results are live, does this open up the possibility of showing data from radio controls where its avaliable?

Bit uncanny timing. This afternoon's task for the FatBoy district event software is doing a live results screen...
You see these live screens all the time at canoeing races so if they can cope there with water everywhere we can cope!

Its the same as any results really though. Trouble is its bad enough trying to find your name ( unless you are used to being at the top or bottom ) on a still printed sheet let alone a scrolling one.
Perhaps a page refesh with a cycle of results showing say the top 10 on each course/class would be better.

OK
so what we need is
A platform which can take four monitors undercover facing downwards.
Somewhere to put an old PC with 4 old PCI video cards in it and a wireless network card.
( in theory ,as win98 and above can support up to 9, this should work but has anybody tried it?)
4 auto refreshing scrolling different web pages with top 10 showing on each class / course.
paper results around the bottom showing complete results.
plonk in field within 35 metres of download tent and away we go.
Oh and quite a bit of power.
I think I can get my hands on enough kit, trouble is chasers havnt got an event for ages.
And ill need someone to make that stand
