(girlie) shoe advice required
OK, I'm trying to pack for Sweden, think I've gone over the baggage limit in jumpers but having just read the details I've realised we're walking a km to the black tie social. Problem is, I was going to take silly heals as they are the only shoes that go with my dress but I'm thinking, if its icy thats not a good idea. Is anyone currently out in Sweden or has been there in March that could let me know if its likely to be slippery, this may require a complete outfit rethink
and yes I am procrastinating cos its the end of term, I have to pack up my room next and am ever so slightly hungover.

Ice bugs have got to be the shoe of choice

1) You are FAR to organised if you're packing already - I'm not going to think about it until wednesday night.
2) Thank you for being so organised and looking at the details as I wouldn't have noticed the trek to the sociall...
3) Is the social really black tie? How strict is it?
4) Aren't we going to freeze our asses off walking in the snow (yea there is lots of snow there apparently) in silly shoes and dresses?
5) Where are the big strong men to carry us?!

In Lund (south Sweden) it is cold, snowing, just getting dark, icey, I'm probably about to get stopped by the cops again for cycling home with no lights as I've left them in my room!
But all in all I say take the heels but take a spare pair of shoes/trainers for the walk to the pub and change at the door! What ever shoes you wear going to the pub will get wet and cold so you'd be better with two pairs, plus if you take trainers it means you can run away from the police faster when you get up to no good.

You can't expect to reach the top without a little climbing!

Right thats it, I'm taking my tracky bottoms and 4-season ice-climbing boots to keep my toes warm
Am much lamenting the fact that my down jacket hasn't arrived yet

Cheers for the advice guys. Ali I promise I'm not normally this organised, had to send rest of my stuff home today so I had very little choice. I'm now packed there's no turning back, have heels, trainers and fluffy boots so should be ok all ways. I'm taking a big jacket for the social and general coldness. Our boys are moaning about black tie, they don't want to cary DJ's out there but as the rest of my clothes are gone I'll be smart (under many layers of coat). Now I have the less fun job of planning what work to bring and generally wasting the next two days. See you out there.

1) I've done things backwards, and just sent everything I'm not taking to Sweden home a few minutes ago.
2) I still hadn't noticed that there was a trek to the social until you mentioned it.
3) I'm not bothering with the full black tie thing. Wearing black trousers, white shirt and dark blue tie. Still haven't decided between black shoes and trainers!
4) I think we'll freeze to death anyway, regardless of what we're wearing!
5) I'm afraid I'm neither big nor strong. Sorry.

I think you'll find that the Oxford and Cambridge terms are out of sync this year and whilst Oxford have finished already we still have lectures 'til Friday... Which is why they've got all the time to worry about packing and we'll be doing it on Wednesday night!

Ooo yes, wednesday night could be busy...especially as its usually my climbing night too
Also have a day fieldtrip and a zillion re-arranged lectures to fit into the next three days, and CJ you will not be alone in bringing the work....
Look forward to seeing you all!

general OUOC consensus is we can't be bothered with black tie, so "smart but casual" it is then

Am looking forward to my first jaunt into Sweden, and its delightful weather.
But seriously bringing work! thats just below the belt!
You'll get all the non-wasters stressed, not cool!
A bottle, or so, of vodka from the airport and bare handed snow ball fights should keep you busy during the week - no excuses.
