finishing, eventually (note to self - half marathons before the trossachs are a bad idea) yesterday, i had managed to slice my finger open on some bracken and had lovely bright red blood oozing all over the place.

Is that blood or paint?

Yep, i thought i was having such a shocking run i may as well settle back for a bit of water colour challenge on the way to number 19.

It would be a good place to have watercolour challenge, nice views. My Swedish friends liked the views even more than the orienteering which they said was "easy" and that it was a "good map - they could understand everything." none of them finished their courses though.. hmm.

Exactly the same thing was said to me by some english lady on Pico Ruivo, Madeira earlier this year after I had taken a slight fall on some hard lava rocks. I was just lucky that I didn't fall two metres to the right or left since that would have meant a vertical drop of a few hundred meters. No reason to abort the training session just because I had to use most of my pants to soak up the blood.

Well at least I think we can pinpoint that stupid phrase to be stemming from somewhere on the british isles, cause none of the german tourists commented on my injuries at all.

Personally I slit my hand cutting the rolls for lunch after an event Bangor Hospital is lovely

Seriously you are right - it is nasty stuff.. Had plenty of bad cuts off it myself.

As for the Trossachs - looked like the map from a couple of years ago... Quite small and uncontaminated by North Achray (mind during the time I was down South, Achray seems to have disappeared) Being slowenough to appreciate these things, I thought it was very good indeed.

I am also trying to remember the last time I got through a whole course without a path... It was pretty intense in there!

I did the very same thing... maybe we were sabotaged... razor bracken or something... just added to the sense of woe i felt after my run...

must be growin up here aswell then - no matter what, i always seem to get ripped to shreds orienteering. give me a control on the other side of a field of grass and i could die from loss of blood...

That run in the trossachs was very fun...but I now have a splinter in my toe which still will not come out. Still, doesnt sound as bad a being sliced by bracken

My litttle sis tripped over when orienteering a while ago and somehow managed to impale a piece of bracken in her wrist...apparently it went a couple of inches along under the skin and only just missed tendons and veins - she had to have it surgically removed. Nasty stuff bracken!
