YBT Final 'the real thing'

I get an 'unable to load" message via this broadband connection. Does that mean I'm missing a vital bit of software? or have I missed the time window? (it's 15.49 as I type)

Yeah.

Seemingly my linux work machine does not want to play it. However it is complaining about a missing plugin. Viewing the sourse it seems that the lack of Windows Media Player is the issue. Not a great problem, as I will be on a different machine on Sunday (assuming that I am not out running somewhere).

How was the frame rate at your end people?
It was broadcasting at 15 FPS but i'm sure with the shared bandwidth that that will come down.

I might pull down the size slightly and lower the frame rate to 8 fps to help.

Frame rate looked good, but guess it could be more of a problem if many are logged in on Sunday.
Regularly updated results, which is something you have already mentioned you are going to do, is more important to me (and I would guess others not there). Not sure what setup you have and so how the two things (results and webcam) will effect each other.

Ill probably set results to upload every 2 mins or so with the splits going up every 5 - 10 mins or faster if possible. Trouble is you have to disconnect evrybody from OE2003 before you can do backups which will interupt this.

I normally put up results about every half hour at all our events if I have mobile phone coverage, but seeing as we have broadband !!!!

David still had changes coming in all day, and it has been said from on high not to advertise the start lists too soon because once people see start lists they will want to change start times so they are not just after "x" or just before "y" but closer to "z" etc and create endless work.

Agree might get some moans when actaul lists published, not everyone can always be satisfied, just so long as they're fair and don't affect the results. Think it should have been publicised more that thats the reason start list were not published, though it makes it difficult planning travel to the event.
How long before an event do people think they should know their start time? I'm thinking along the lines of particually long important races where nutrition and hydration in the days (if not weeks ) before the event can be a vital part of performance.

You generally know what kind of start block you are going to compete in.... and I very much doubt that sports science has reached the stage that you can gain any advantage weeks in advance by knowing when you start exactly.... unless of course you are planning to know when you finish & work back from that that

At WOC's etc.... start lists are normally distributed at the Team Leaders meeting the evening before competitions.... and sometimes not until much later if there are any problems.... and races don't come more important than that:)

Troubleshooting the webcam.

The web page contains a windows media player version 7 or above.
you’ll need to download and install an updated media player (current version - 9)

for you techies and non windows users out there you can open directly http://195.206.164.33:1121 in your media player.
The stream is currently MPEG so if you do not have a DVD player it might be difficult to see.

My intention if I have time today is to set up an alternative page with jpg captures every 5 secs and screen refresh to fail over to if bandwidth becomes a problem.

The web cam won't be on now until Sunday morning.
