Is anyone else annoyed that the first time we get a good event in our country (i.e. World Cup in Surrey) with events such as Sprint O's - that they are placed next to one of the most important races of the year (i.e FCC FINAL!!!)
The FCC Middle and Classic Finals are to be held in the middle of 2 sprint races! I would actually love to try these sprint events but - dont want the run the one on the 29th April because its the day before the FCC Middle, and probably then will be too tired on the 2nd of May to run the next one!!
This is really annoying as this is the first time, to my knowledge that sprint races have taken place "properly" in Britian. AND I wont be able to take part.
Will there be any more real sprints in the future?
Will this annoying booking of fixtures happen again?
Also how about encorporating a sprint into the FCC??

there won't be a sprint in the FCC because there isn't a sprint at JWOC to answer that question.
the others need a bit more thinking

Maybe people will run the 2 sprint races and the woc classic...but what about us normal mortals???
didnt hear about the sprint at busa...sounds good!
"Real sprint" - what i mean is the same people who turn up for FCC races etc. to run in an event so you can rate yourself against the best/everyone - not just against people in your club/uni. I know the BEOC exists, but there aren't many more of them...

'I couldn't give a toss'
what do you mean by 'properly'
there have been plenty of sprint races - these are just two more.
there will be plenty in the future.

Hmmmm,
So - you want to rate yourself against the elite, but you want to have a rest in between the two sprint races whilst they do a relay and a Classic race ?
But hey,
you rate yourself as a 'normal mortal' anyway so you already know the answer
- you're normal, you know you can't hack it
but you want the races changed to suit your limited ability ?
Or
maybe you should take it on ?

they've had PWT in britain before (in glasgow i believe and there was one, maybe not pwt but an international sprint race, in lancaster when the world cups were in the lakes) and BSC has been going for a few years now, where you can compete against the best in britain. if that's not enough and you want to compete against the best in the world then it's simple, get yerself selected! -well ok maybe it's not that simple..
in fact there's lots of other park sprint type races going on in the uk, quite a few informal ones in sheffield where you can test yourself against the best little chipmunk orienteer in the world and the formidable "chin" , or come up here for the glasgow parks champs in the weege, 3 races in 1 day! where you can compete against erm.. patrick walder.. a few hungover nopesport cartel members..?

Ahem...
I can hack it, I'm not moaning either! i was just stating the fact that it seems to me that this is one of the first times that a sprint race has been placed in a major multi day event and I would like to see more of them at multi-days. I dont want them to change the races to suit ability... I've been a mid-top M18-M20 and no my ability is not limited... only by the amount of training....AND- whats up with the eliteness...surely orienteering is not all about the ELITE - there are others as well!-otherwise there would not be a sport for you to do!!!
why so negative Kitch?

There was a 'park' race at Moray 2003 (on the rest day).

wasn't being negative Matt
I'm sure you can hack it,
the passion of your original post would suggest so
I was just having a go because your original post came across as a bit of winge.
wanted to understand what you were driving at
giving you a poke to see if you bite.

Yes but that was jobby....the overprinters couldn't even manage to distinguish between a control circle and a finish circle. It's not rocket science ...a control has one single circle and on the other hand a finish has two!

FCC didn't exist when I was a junior but I understand that it is a pretty big deal these days, and the results are important. You have to decide what your priorities are - if you want to concentrate on FCC and not run the sprints don't let Kitch or anybody else persuade you otherwise. Of course if that is the decision you make there is no point whingeing about it. You can't do every race, and there are other sprints.
