big hills with controls at the top of them
what ruth said bout walks up hills to the start...
having an early start, having to spend ages fighting through braken, then listen how others on your course have lovely 'sheep' trails striaght to the control and so consequently did a faster time
fog..
injuries..
areas like OFD (day 5 at croeso)
crappy maps that shoulda been re-mapped bout 10 years ago
area's that should never have been mapped and should never have courses or training on them
living miles away from ppl you wanna see every day (not related to 'o' but hey)

Is it the press ?
Or is it 24 hour broadcast media talking jobbie and blowing everything out of proportion because they don't have the inteligence either to understand what is going on or even to listen to those that do and leave them to sort it out quietly.
The press you see at least gives people a chance to think about what they are reading. Broadcast on the other hand just can't help ramming stuff down your throat.
And the sticky labels on fruit.
We always got by without it it before.
Now somewhere someone has made a forture from the most annoying and pointless invention I can imagine - its straight out of The Hitch Hiker's Guide, like instructions on toothpicks. If I could find the person I'd stick them full of toothpicks, like in The War of Don Emanuel's Nether Parts.

1 Television programmes about stupid people who can't wash themselves/clean their houses /manage their finances/sell their house/find another house to buy/buy a wreck without having a survey done/develop property without it becoming a personal design statement ......and think that it's all okay to appear a prat because they're on telly.
2 Bookshops full of spin-off books from the above programmes for Christmas.
3 Christmas, now I've mentioned it.

it's amazing how they think that they have authority cos they're on those silly animals. Reminds me of a time on my mtb when a woman on a horse shouted :
"you may pull over to the side of the path and wait quietly for me to pass"
...i may? or i may ignore you. horses definitly in room 101 please.
...and horse riders for that matter.

I would have in fact been a st andrews student had it not been for an open day i went on. I wouldve been in the same year as prince william. Everywhere I went was filled with the dulcit tones of those whose daddies are lord of the manor and their auntie fannie is third cousin of the queen. The last straw was when i was being shown around the halls, i mean one girl brought SIX members of her family, others had mother, father, sister feliocity and nanny. anyway the last straw was when girl's father piped up that she was only going to go to st andrews if she could have her pony flapjack there as well.
the moral is its not so much the horses but the fannies on the horses

Always looking down on you with contempt from their high perch, like they're better than you. Well next time I'll scare the [nope] out of your horse and it'll bolt and throw you off. and then you'll be laughing, won't you?? See, WE are in control

True but they make up for it by being as opinionated as humanly possible.

While we are yah baiting (go easy they "own" forests
) anyone remember that disgraceful incident a few years back when we could only enter a National on Eyam Moor by signing the entry form as to the effect that we did not oppose banning fox hunting.
All theoretical of course.. "antis" would sign with their fingers crossed, but it stank all the same.
