Can anyone let me know how much of a problem it is using a northern hemisphere compass in Australia? Does it stick, is it inaccurate etc....? If it is a major problem then do silva do the spectra compass on the elastic strap for the southern hemisphere and if so then where could I get one?
Thanks for the advice

funnily enough, australia is a big enough place to actually have compasses sold down there aswell. you can get one at any big orienteering competitions, when do you need it for? are you running the 5days at Xmas?
And yes it can be a problem using a northern hemisphere compass down there, many times i have completely jobbyed races, cos i have just pulled the fiirst compass out of my o kit, and it being for the wrong hemisphere.

Go orienteering in Great Britain......... its financially better off than Australia:)

worst shopping display in melbourne at that place.
you'll probably find it around half the price to order bulk compasses from snowgum (http://www.snowgum.com.au ) rather than tom andrews (macson), because he bumps up the price that wee bit extra.
[edit] although I couldn't say for certain that snowgum would have clip compasses?

Thanks for all the advice - given that the races start on Monday there isn't much of a lead in time..... Robbo - thanks for the snowgum lead - they have a shop in Ballarat that might be a possibility. I've also been in touch with macson and they might be able to help. Otherwise I guess they will have to make do with the slow settling clip on variety that all competitors are being given.
