I want to say sorry to anyone i offended yesterday, i was quite stressed by the time i wrote it as i had just had a really hideous day at college... yeesh maths... I still think there should be more tours and i do think if they are ever going to exist again then they are going to have to be organised independantly (or is it -ently... hmmm) hopefully BOF marketing/development/whoevers interested in keeping this sport going people will realise what these idependent tours are doing/for and support them as best they can.
Also, the Carol McNeill courses are still run as far as i know because a few of the juniors (10/12s) from MDOC have been on them - and they loved them to my knowledge anyways...

There is no need to apologise Lizi - i don't think anyone was offended by your posts - we are all entitles to express our opinions. Peter can get a bit over excited at times, guest was rather rude i thought.
Wouldn't it be funny if nope set up a B tour and it got to be bigger news than the BOF tour - stranger things have happened

Guest, you're still being rude, please identify yourself.
Carol McNeill weekends are ace. I learnt absolutely tons from then. But they're for pre start age kids. They are highly recommended btw.

Mmmm - guest gets very personal for someone i can't get personal back to. I'm not moaning about start squad i just don't think the present situation is very satisfactory and looking at ways of improving it for everyone - what's so wrong with that? Incidentally i'm not the kind of parent who "gets" their children training. They do the deciding and i do the support , drive the car and pay the bills! which I am more than happy to do!
Yes i've helped at a couple of carol mcNeill courses (as a minder not a coach)- they are great fun - for younger children - and i certainly learned a lot - but how I was expected to shadow some of these slips of girls round the woods was beyond me - i saw them at the first control and then waiting for me at the finish!

Just call it an open tour, or a nopetour, or a something-else tour, but not a "B" tour, which still suggests some kind of selection process. This idea was certainly aired with BOF when they came to meet HOC, and I've since brought it up at BOF coaching committee, as something that ifittiches enterprises (if it existed) would be tempted to do. But I'm still helping to prop up NHS, so it would be great if some coaches would get together and do it independently!

I'm sure that a few years ago people selected for tours had to pay themselves, and they were quite happy to do this as the training was good. Then when the funding came in it was great people did not have to pay. Subsequent to this the funding was cut and suddenly the number of people taken on tour was reduced. Is it not possible as funding is limited, the best people can be funded but still take the numbers that used to go on tour. As the people not selected to be funded can pay themselves, I'm sure people would not mind as it never used to be funded anyway.

even if it wasnt called a B tour your still gonna know its for the not-so-great orienteers so why not just call it a B tour...i think you should have some form of selection cos it gives people like me something to aim for
plus carol McNeils tour thingies are ace, i went on it bout 3 or 4 times n it gave a gr8 base to go off.....but once i was too old for that and had no tours or nething to go for i stopped orienteering...only come back into it since i've had tours to go on (even if it is just the welsh one)

Well that's not strictly true - it's not just the amount of sleeping space but the effort needed to draw up maps, debrief, cook and sort everyone out. Anymore than 16 like we used to have would be too many. But we did only take 12 this year.
I'm not convinced more space needs to be made on the Start tours. But there does need to be something for those just behind.

Sorry if i'm about to offend anyone here but at halden this year there was only twelve went but beyond the twelve there wasn't really anyone that was at the seme level.if they had taken more they would have had to take probably another 10 to not leave out anyone.and 22 is a bit many for the coaches to handle.
i'm sure us twelve made it hard enough for them anyway!!
