oi,
I have a linux machine and I'm not a geek. It keeps things nice and simple for my web server.
Which laptop should I buy?

What an offer!
Unfortunately I would flounder as my working on my web server business (hosting web surveys) consists of me talking to my housemate (a real geek) on msn - until he finally gets annoyed and comes and does stuff for me, learnt a bit though.
I have a maths degree so I suppose that'd make me fairly geeky too - I can't win!

Having a bought a Tiny laptop three years I plead for everyone who reads this to NEVER EVER hand over a single penny of your hard earned cash to those thieving [nope]ard [nope]ers. When it breaks (and it will) you will be screwed, and I wouldn't wipe my arse with their warranty... Feel free to pass this one to everyone you know. You will thank me for this advice if you ever happen upon a poor unfortunate who has not heeded this advice.

http://www.ebuyer.com was the cheapest when I was looking for my laptop. That said, their delivery times aren't great (~1 week). PC World Business (http://www.pcwb.com) is also worth a look.
Just to give a more personal slant on my laptop (IBM T41 2373) I've found that it's the little things I notice most. The IBM keyboards are second to none and I often forget that I'm working on a laptop. The screen is similarly great. Features such as the ultra-bright LED in the top of the screen to light up the keyboard, nipple (mini joystick in the middle of the keyboard) and touchpad, the much advertised hard drive "airbag" and a titanium lid combined with the fact that it only weighs 2.2kg and has enough battery life to allow me to watch films all the way from Edinburgh to Cambridge on the train (5 hours) in my opinion make it well worth the £300ish premium over a similar laptop from a no-name provider. I've also used it to play most modern games without any problems at all.

Thanks for all the great advice,
Today I went to Inverness and ordered myself the very machine Peters got (IBM Thinkpad T41) with aditional RAM and Memory from a quality place called ITP Solutions in the industrial estate, loads of good advice and service (pre and apre sale) got a pretty good deal too after checking on the net last night (pretty much all night) it did seem to be the jobby and got oit a fare bit cheaper than the net price, so it is arriving Monday (NICE).
I hear what people are saying about MACs right enough but I am a Windows boyo and feel comfortable with it so it's coming with Windows xp Pro and office (thrown in) and as Braddie pointed out the uni recommends Windows right enough.
Thanks again

I've found, that if theres something wrong with the machine when you get it, ebuyer wont lift a finger. They missed out £40 worth from something I bough, and they still havent sent it after a month.
