Looks like alex Carcas has pulled out of the Long at halfway, I thought he was just taking a circuitous route but ne has gone into finish. Harrison is going well , seems to have taken a really good line on the very long leg.
The women's long leg has a far too tempting path option which most seemed to be taking, a bit early to say if its intrinsically faster . looks like Chloe is going for that as well.

The ones trying to go straight on the women's long leg seem to be coming to grief in the green so perhaps the field path run is a better option.
Chloe had a small miss on NO1 but has been solid since and Alice Rigby seems to have had a very good run so far.
Harrison had a good line on the long leg but missed the control at the end of it, seemd to recover well and has gone well since .

Re: JWOC
Alice taking the direct route on the long, could be an interesting comparison with Chloe who went around but had a small miss on the final approach.
She doesn't seem to have lost time on other girls who were near her on the previous control but thats just by eye.
Very slow into the control, just short and above it, trouble is going out she probably gave a hint to the pack coming up from the road.

Re: JWOC
Grace currently 4th out of 60 runners to the first timed control and just setting off on the long leg and going straight...Now at the thick green and appearing to be crashing through it at speed, so far! Not sure she's gained anything so far on Koivo who was just ahead and went round...Perfect line on the leg and possibly 3 mins quicker!

Look to me like Alex missed out part of the loop from 6-11; maybe something to do with his retirement.

Yes, it was a fairly tight butterfly loop with a spine, and he missed the westernmost "wing". But he was also stationary for 90 seconds on approach to 5, so I guess he may have got an injury or something, which then distracted him in the butterfly loops.

Fiona took the long route with Janosikova for 11 and it appears to be the right choice for her. They are the quickest so far between 3.3k and 6.1k. I hasten to add she was leading J some of the time and not just sitting on her tail.

Yeh Fiona was all over the place up to control 4 and then she and Janosikova were stuck like glue for the rest of the course - if anything Fiona appeared to be leading into the trickier controls. Perhaps she just needs someone there for confidence. Grace on the other hand ran the course on her own.

She seemed to lose time to Fiona on the long leg. Do you mean that Grace would have been slower on the road than Fiona?

He's going straight rather than using the road on the long leg. Looks like both take similar times (comparing Hadorn and Ojanaho).
Meanwhile, Simon Imark (SWE) is absolutely flying along so far...

Re: JWOC
Sasha still in with a medal chance 4th after the long leg (assuming Imark doesn't go walkabouts).
Long legs look very balanced - more about preference and execution than actual macro route choice.
