For the age categories that have an elite class (18,20,21) - why aren't the long courses (e.g. M21L) long on day 2?

All the classes seem to have a middle race.
Lengths last year: M21L > M21E (day2) and M21E > M21L (day3)

Day 2 is Middle Distance for everyone this year.

I think this is a one-off but suspect it might become the norm.

However, It does seems a bit odd that the M21L course should be shorter than M21E at a middle race. And even more odd the M20L should run a shorter course than M20E (which is itself shortened to a 20-25 minute winning time to be consistent with the JWOC course length) - The M20L course is only 200m further than M70L!

Does anyone know if days 2 and 3 are possible without a car? I'm wondering about going as my dad is in Surrey but only have Fri-Mon off so would get the sleeper there and back. I could take a foldable bike on the train. I suspect it's not really possible particularly day 2.

Me, I just looked for the distance I fancied and entered that. I'm now looking forward to a couple of enjoyable runs.

Well you could have asked Event Enquiries who would have told you. The answer is no, not really feasible

The pre event publicity and the event website have spelt out quite clearly that Day 2 is a Middle distance race for all classes, whilst Day 3 is a Long course for everyone. This is spelt out in particular detail on the course lengths page.

In previous year's day 2 was only a Middle distance race for the Elite classes, all other classes were 'Long' (actually specified as 90% of Champioship length since there were 2 Long days back-to-back). Hence, for example, M21L was longer than M21E on Day 2 because one was a Long Course and the other was a Middle. And on Day 3 M21E was longer because both were defined as Long courses.

And I had thought that it had already started - at least having attended 3 of the 4 'pre-JK' events it feels a bit like that. Thanks to TVOC (or perhaps more accurately Roger Thetford) for last night's dumbbell score event. Pity I forgot to adopt a sensible strategy before setting off. Great fun though.
