Adjust times in garmin fit/tgx/gpx file?

I only intended to press the watch button once, to get a GPS fix, but it seems I started the clock going 3m 40s before I started. So now when I try to import to RouteGadget2, using auto-fit, it gets it very wrong.

I'm exporting the TCX file from Garmin Connect. (There is also a GPX file option.) Can anyone suggest a tool to remove the start of a TCX/GPX file (or the original FIT file)? (Commandline tool is fine.)

Many people use SportTracks to analyse their runs

This allows you to split runs into segments / delete bits at the start or end etc.

Yes, but SportTracks requires you to download software and register, so may not be the quickest solution.

Editing GPX files directly isn't difficult. Just open it up in Wordpad, and find the part of the track that you want to delete. Scroll down until you find the <trk> and <trkseg> lines. That's the beginning of your track, and your track segment. Then there will be lots of "track points", enclosed in <trkpt> and </trkpt> tags. For example, here's the code for two track points.

Just find all the trackpoints you don't want (which you can do by seeing the time attached to each trackpoint), and delete all of those trackpoints. Re-save the GPX file, which will now only include the bits of the track that you wanted, and upload to Routegadget.

Autofit does allow for the GPS file not starting at the same time as the result file, but it only looks at a range 10 seconds before and after your recorded start time.

In theory you should be able to get autofit to work better by manually adjusting the offset it uses. You do this on the spinner control next to the Autofit button. If you set this to around 220 (in your case) then you should find things look OK, and you can nudge it backwards and forwards to get the best fit. If that doesn't work then try -220, since I can't remember whether I adjust forwards or backwards in time.

But editing the GPX file may be easier.

Strava also has a crop option, and then you can export a GPX file from it.

I once accidentally left GPS running for the 2-hour drive home from an event.
When I uploaded it I have a "longest run" and "highest average speed" I will never better.
I could not find a way to truncate so I emailled Garmin. The answer eventually came back "you cannot".
