Or they could just return to 4 minute intervals, but alternate M/W every 2 minutes, with timing so that the top women finish say 30 minutes before the top men. That would be a lot less artificial that requiring competitors to stop for two minutes.
TV coverage could start part way through the start lists, which might make the TV people even happier as they will get both races within the same programme.

Although from IOF Council's response to the General Assembly proposal, it sounds like the IOF might prefer to shorten the men's EWT instead

EWT = Estimated winning time.
The Swedes organised their womens trial with a 90 min winning time, produced a WOC with an 86.24 winning time (should be 70-80), and Tove first took the lead after 81mins.
Maybe some people are better at estimating than others

Turns out the women's EWT won't be lengthened after all...

Re: WOC and WTOC 2016 in SWE
So who's running for GBR in the relay today?
I gather GG has failed a fitness test which is a great shame. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to him. Is Ralph the reserve? Kris, Ralph, Hector?
I also note Cat is ill according to her AP log. Is she ok to run today and, if not, who is filling in?

Jessica Tullie, Hollie Orr and Jo Shepherd.
Kris Jones, Hector Haines and Ralph Street.
Not sure if that's the right running order though.
Hope the maps hold up better today.

Even more important to get away to a good start without GG and Cat. Feeling nervous just sitting here!

Relax. Kris is a top quality and solid first leg major relay runner.
(hope he doesn't now make a mistake...)
