Looks like only Kyburz and (maybe) Basset can challenge Lundanes' lead at the finish.

Looks like Kyburz is going to win. The TV coverage basically ignored him entirely until he appeared on the run in

Re: WOC and WTOC 2016 in SWE
don't they have a cut-off time where they remove you from the results if you're over it, or am I thinking of something else?
When they switch to alternate forest/urban WOCs, are the middle/long qualifiers making a comeback?

The plan is to have 1 forest qualifier. Can't remember where I read that, but it was one of those BS IOF papers. They don't know how it will work, how long it will be, if it will be Q for both, or just middle and long to be done via the BS World Ranking system

Two Swiss, two French and two Norwegians on the podium, the same countries as the 2015 relay medalists.

Re: WOC and WTOC 2016 in SWE
I saw somewhere (edit: pages 75 to 78 of this massive PDF) a proposal for reinstating the Middle qualifier but continuing the current allocation of a set number of places in the Long final per country, but with a proviso that any athlete starting the Long must previously have scored 600 points at a WRE.
There's a maximum time of 2hr for the Middle, an increase from (I think) 90min in previous years.

Looks like that was a tough race - big names scattered all the way back to the 30s!
As maprun alludes - the relay favourites showing well!

With Kris to be added to our team it might be worth a punt on paying for the TV coverage without the sound!

Re: WOC and WTOC 2016 in SWE
I have to say I've found the TV commentary so far to be less tiring than listening to Per Forsberg, whose permanent state of frenetic excitement works well in an arena but can be a little overwhelming in your living room.
What I think the TV commentators would benefit from - and I know this is a common complaint about TV sports commentary - is not feeling like they have to fill every second of airtime. I'd prefer it if they let the pictures tell the story and added a few insightful words here and there, rather than keeping up a constant running commentary on everything that appears on the screen. It's noticeable when watching the Finnish TV broadcasts of Jukola that the commentators will often go thirty seconds or more without speaking at all (although I obviously have no idea what they're saying when they do speak).

Back to bird song and what appears to be traffic noise, quite restful actually. There is a big road close to the start, at first i thought it was wind noise.
Agree about commentary, presumably they think they are not earning their money if they donl' fill in every second of time with blather. Takes a lot of confidence and knowledge to just enhance the pictures.
