Didn't they have the same team last year for the TV coverage on BBC Alba. It seems to be intended for non-orienteers, with explanation of the sport and the pecularities of the sprint discipline mixed with commentary on the race. No fun. No excitement. They don't appear to be emotionally invested - not the way Per Forsberg is, for example. I think the best word for it would be disengaged.

But how many non-orienteers are paying to watch?? If the races were being broadcast on a UK TV channel, or even free on internet TV, I could possibly understand having these commentators (well, it's really the man who gets on my nerves), but when it's mainly orienteers who are paying to watch, I don't get it.

We were watching Danish TV for free with the sound down and yours truly commentating for the kids - just like the old days! My attempts at a proper commentary were interspersed with shouting at the screen every time GB appeared, but at least I was engaged!

The IOF are living in a dream world. Last year I mentioned something (can't remember what) to the event director, and was told that the priority was for the 1+ million TV audience, not people in the arena. I laughed and walked away, there is no point debating with someone who doesn't know what they are talking about...

Ironically, they are far more likely to get passers by taking an interest at the actual arena, which has significantly better commentary that is directed at orienteers who understand the sport. The domestic broadcasts in Scandi etc will also likely get a few non-orienteers interested, so should consider them with their delivery. But the IOF live center? The only people on there are orienteers, and we get the worst of it.

Two British qualifiers into the TempO Final of the World Trail Orienteering Championships: Nick Barrable (SYO) and Tom Dobra (UBOC).

Two evenly matched Qualifiers, with the Norwegians 'on song': Sondre Ruud Braten won Blue with a score of 172.5; Tom Dobra was 13th with 296; last qualifier (18th) scored 324; John Kewley (MDOC) was 24th with 372.

Red was clearly won by Martin Jullum (Norway - the clear winner of the recent Pre-WTOC 2017 in Lithuania) in 118.5; Nick Barrable was a great 7th with 260.5; 18th (Remo Madella, Italy, London City mapper and had a faultless TempO in Lithuania) 310.5; Ian Ditchfield (MV) was 27th with 411.

Scores are reset for the Final, so all to play for, even for Remo!

Middle area looks fantastic , love the lack of commentary, can hear the birds singing and the crunch of studs. You could almost be there

The men's middle race started at 10.40 BST with the last runner off at 13.10 and the women starting from 13.58, with the last off at 16.10. Expected winning times are 35 mins. The GBR runners are off at:

I only have the updates. It seems that the first 2 to reach TV2 are taking over 3 minutes to do 400m from the TV pre-warning - New zealand and Canada. Why is this?

The Hong Kong guy has now done it in 1 minute, so it must have a technical challenge

Have we offended the commentators? I am used to live feeds without commentary from biathlon and the Olympics but it's still a bit weird. Is there no way of getting the arena commentary?

The Eygptian runner is through the first TV control, at sub-28 min/k speed so far. It must be tough/tricky out there, as the early men are taking around 18 mins for 1.9k!
