Interesting. Looking at other courses that used that control, the proportion of those making mistakes was much smaller, certainly nothing to note. However, they did all approach from a different direction (up the slope from a generally north east direction). Of the top dozen M65Ls, only 2 lost time on that leg - nothing exceptional.
I think it may well have been down to the fact that, after a relatively straightforward start, this was the first leg that started to push more on technique: diagonal downhill. Is it coincidence that the leg that had the second largest number of mistakes on the course (8-9) was also downhill diagonal?
Did everybody make the same mistake?
