@MrsH
Is telling someone to eat more carbs for health, happiness and emotional stability vindictive?
You don't know me personally but you've always had a special 'interest' in anything I post on here. You're very keen to assume the worst about me when you know absolutely nothing about the issues behind the scenes.
@everyone
Everyone has an agenda and my agenda is that I want people to be open and honest with themselves and with each other, before you can move forward you have to admit there is a problem. Silencing people will not achieve anything. If you're a fan of British Orienteering I would encourage you to crowd fun any and all British Orienteering athletes. It is very difficult to make the finances work when trying to train at a high level in a minority sport. If you're part of the GB team I'd encourage you to get real and take responsibility for your actions. Everything we do is a choice in the moment. It's our choice to undereat or to be disorganised and not have enough food with us or to attack someone or to turn a blind eye when someone is unwell or being attacked or abused.
@srollins Zero schadenfreude, still extremely depressed by everything around this issue.
If you find anything I do unbecoming: idgaf . Google it, I had to google schadenfreude. Whatever people say I am that's what I'm not.

Re: Cat Taylor in the National Press!
I don't want to sound mean, but I'm not sure if the public crowd funding idea is such a good one. It might be interpreted by journalists looking to extend the story as "Orienteers by pass the law" etc, rather than "everyone is human". The judge may not be impressed either.
Crowd funding to support our athletes, training, travel to events etc might be a better idea?

@seanc Relax. Don't reckon the judge or any journalists read nopesport and your suggestion is what the money will be used for anyway.
@gross Whatever. Besides, no need to take sides. Be on everyone's side. And be careful not to fall over and cut your head open, that sounds painful. Luckily noone tried to take the moral high ground whilst throwing schadenfreudesque stones at you about that incident. Think you got away with it.

Benefactors often pay fines, bail etc for hard-done-by people!

Well you can be negative, you can be positive or you can do nothing. I'm going for positive on this occasion.

Re: Cat Taylor in the National Press!
I've had some memorable nights over the years and got into some similar debacles myself or tried to help others out of one. Putting this aside, Cat is a new era heroine for GB orienteering. I'm sure she's totally embarrassed about this and her shame will be sizeable. You know what Cat, just you carry on racing hard and playing hard - but maybe next time have a chaperone with you (Gross? Big Jon?) to keep you out of such scrapes
Now, who remembers the time at Modum O-camp when ......

Re: Cat Taylor in the National Press!
Well noone can deny that is a great attitude andypat.
Top GB junior Will Rigg raised £1000 for JWOC through crowdfunding last year.
Seems like there is a good chance to exceed the £300, pay for the fine and more.
I don't agree with everything that's being written on this thread but Cat's definitely BY FAR the most dedicated British orienteer. If people can and want to support that kind of dedication to orienteering then this is your cause for sure.

Re: Cat Taylor in the National Press!
Having just been for a long run (and missed all the interim discussion) and thus a long think I have come to the following conclusions:
1) I was wrong to suggest that the topic of 'bad publicity' shouldn't be discussed because that is a valid topic for this forum.
2) I was wrong to suggest that a personal attack would immediately be one of the subjects of the discussion.
3) I was wrong with my schadenfreude comment because it came across as personal when in fact it is a common enough human emotion. It is probably why Facebook exists.
But the fact remains that this kind of public shaming is unnecessary and can be harmful. As has been pointed out, the court has sat and decided on their punishment. GB Orienteering will do or has done the same. The rest of us should just get on with our lives without needing gossip forums to make our days more interesting. Let's get back in the forest.
On that note, I will now bow out of this discussion.

A senior member of my golf club has just been suspended for 6 months for verbal abuse of another member in the clubhouse. He had a track record. Now the matter is no longer sub judice I wonder what action the governing body will take.

Re: Cat Taylor in the National Press!
Let hope the governing body sees sense and ignores it!!! This happened not 'in the club house', not in the forest, not in the athlete's area after the race, not in the athlete accommodation, not even at the banquet, but at a private social event after WOC had closed.
Cat made a mistake but has been punished by the police and in the press. She is not only a great athlete, but has also been a caring and inspirational team mate of mine and many others over the past few years. I speak for many in the current and past British team when I say I wish her all the best for the future.

Well thanks folks - we've reached our target and then some in less than a day!
I've been asked by a couple of people to think about rewording the crowdfunding to a more general support Cat page and keeping it going for the rest of the month. This would maybe allow it to be shared more widely.
How do people feel about that? - bearing in mind the individual in question probably knows nothing of this and certainly hasnt consented....
(Harry I'll put you down as a "maybe"
)
