Today is…
…time for one final quick look back at GBR at WOC 2015

What a fantastic week! Many thanks to the team for giving the GB fans so much to shout about right across the range of disciplines, including...

Sprint races
Kris Jones finishing 8th in surely the closest fought WOC sprint final ever, coming down a wall of noise on the run-in for an 8th place that was just 12 seconds away from taking the gold medal. Just 12 seconds….

Forest races
Cat Taylor in 5th (Middle) and 6th (Long), delighting the flag-waving crowd by coming in as the new leader on both days, finally ending up within a minute of a medal in both races.

Relay races
The Men’s forest relay team cheered ever more loudly by the crowd as each successive TV control showed more good news, and contending right to the end through a tense battle on the final leg, ultimately run out of it into 4th place just over the very final controls. Great effort and so close to a medal!

Those performances in particular were tantalisingly close to medal success – but the team as a whole put on a quality set of performance and gave us a great show!

Before 2015, the record for individual top 10 results from GB athletes at a single WOC was four, in 1999 and 2013.
In 2015 the GB team equalled that record.

Before 2015, the record for individual top 20 results from GB athletes at a single WOC was 10, in 2006.
In 2015 the GB team bettered that, setting a new GB record of 11 top 20 finishes.

Before 2015, the record for number of different GB athletes finishing in the top 20 at a single WOC was seven, in 2005 and 2006.
In 2015 the GB team bettered that, setting a new GB record of 8 different athletes placing in the top 20.

Congratulations to the team - the future is bright, bring on WOC 2016

Before 2015 the men's team had never been in division 1, and the women not higher than 7th. Before WOC 2015 both men and women were in Division 2.

In 2015, the men achieved their highest ever rating: 5th Nation, and the women their highest ever rating: 6th Nation. Both were promoted to Division 1.

Bring on WOC2016, with a full quota of 3 runners in each discipline.
