Good news about FVO's "UK Cup Final" weekend. The IOF confirmed this morning that both the Bannockburn sprint and the Tullochroisk middle have been approved as WREs.
Tullochroisk is a classic Scottish area with a little bit of everything...

Great preparation for areas like Glen Affric.
Bannockburn is a Livingston-style estate, never previously used. Again, chosen for its relevance to the WOC sprint areas.
The weekend is rounded off with another SOL on Dunalastair.
Don't miss it!
(Moves are afoot to upgrade Bannockburn from a level D so you can have BOF ranking points as well as World ones !)

Kind of expected Focus to come out by now with details, as the deadline for copy was in mid-January...

Re: Schiehallion Weekend 19-21 Jun
Entries are now open for an excellent weekend of racing in June, with 3 UK Elite Orienteering League races, 2 World Ranking Events, 2 Scottish Orienteering League races and 1 Scottish Orienteering Urban League race all in one weekend. All three of the areas being used are in sight of the famous conical peak of Schiehallion, where in 1775 contours were invented!
You can expect classic Scottish orienteering, world class terrain, beautiful scenery, a big race atmosphere and friendly hospitality. Prepare to be challenged!
Enter via Oentries and IOF Eventor (for elites). Further details including WRE Bulletin 1 is also available on the FVO website and the Tayside Orienteers Website.

And, I am pleased to add, the estate manager at Dunalastair has promised to switch off the new electric fence that most courses cross at least once

Might have added a bit of charge to the race....

In addition to our lovely sponsors at DOLM and GGmaps, we now have £1100 extra sponsorship from those nice people at sportsmatch and sportscotland, to cover this and further development of urban orienteering around Bannockburn.
So, make sure you get yourself entered for an event that was already going to be fantastic and will now feature enhanced fantasticity. And if you were hoping to get your paws on some of The largest prize pot ever awarded in British Orienteering, make sure not to miss the Scottish Champs at Ardnaskie to get those all-important pre-final points.

Re: Schiehallion Weekend 19-21 Jun
AND......unless you're an elite there is no Middle race (sorry control pick exercise) to moan about and we won't be using touch free anything, just traditional classic orienteering in classic Scottish terrain using traditional (but not old fashioned) si punching. And if you are an elite I promise you there are not 30 controls in your middle race (I should know I'm the planner )..... Enter via Oentries and IOF Eventor (for elites)

And: there are fewer than 30 controls on all of Dunalastair long courses AND on all of the S6D middle distance courses!
Oddly enough I am quite looking forward to the moaning after the S6D middle distance - I think we have found a good balance, but this is a new one for me as a planner so feedback will be interesting.

A rare view of Schiehallion without that cloud at the top:
Get practicing to cross a lot of these at speed:
And, unlike the planner, wear your tick-proof socks:
