Remember the Middle Champs there in 2009? It was good for a Middle but rather small for anything else!? Can't see them getting a 12km? M21 75 minute winning time out of it, even with mapping everything in sight. 2 Map exchanges and 60 controls?

2 road crossings so the U16s cant take part...

Scott Fraser won the 2009 Middle in 34.49. That was 6.2 and we had back to back maps.

These areas are certainly not being chosen for the longer courses in mind...

The river at Boston can get quite rough, Carol. I remember it as the last 2 miles of the Boston Marathon.

As nobody else appears to have anything to say about it, I thought the British Night Champs was great. It wasn't a particularly promising area, but I thought the planner produced a really, really fun course that I enjoyed immensely - enjoyability being the aspect of planning that seems to get overlooked far too often. Thank you to everyone involved.

Earlier in this thread there was some discussion about whether the area was big enough to produce a 70 minute winning time for the elite courses. Graham Gristwood's time was 67 minutes and Clare Ward's time was 66 minutes so that's almost spot on. The BOF site is good for searching old results, and gives these winnings times for M21A - this year was in the middle of the range.

2010 - 72 mins
2011 - 63 mins
2012 - 80 mins
2013 - 72 mins
2014 - 63 mins
2015 - 67 mins

I liked the planning too. Looking at the routes on my course on RouteGadget (M45) there were very few legs where people took the same route.

I'm told the golf course was too expensive for the council to subsidise, so is going to be turned back into a mix of woodland and parkland. What an excellent idea. Hopefully it will catch on throughout the country

Gnitworp has already produced a superb map of an ex council golf course near his house, which I first night orienteered on in 1998 or 99.
