City of London Race
Thanks to SLOW for a great day's racing around the city of London. Despite having been here three years ago I didn't revisit any parts I'd been to before. Barbican almost as puzzling as before, but cut my time down here considerably!

Thoroughly enjoyed my race. Definitely helped having been through the Barbican 3 years ago, although I think also the building work helped a bit by making some route choices more obvious too.

Same here, very enjoyable event. Actually managed to get through the Barbican this time without getting too confused, though the leg getting into it - 17(244) to 18(239) on course 7 - certainly gave me something to think about.

TICK Alert. Rick of Compass Point spoke to me about ticks when he left. There had been a swilrl of ticks outside the school as they loaded their van. I checked when we got back and had 2 bites. Check yourself! Would never have believed it to be a problem at the City of London Race

Re: City of London Race
I know there has been some controversy over the use of artificial fencing in elite level sprint events but I did think the planners made very good use of it in this urban race.
Men's Open - it seems great navigation in the Barbican takes Richard Cronin from 8th to the win (see Spiltsbrowser and Routegadget.)

Re: City of London Race
Good event but just not fast enough for urban. confused at 223 (5 on course 9) as prote to east seemed to be blocked by a huge gate, so lost a lot of time running round. But that's urban, always the unexpected. 16-17 a good leg back into the Barbican.

Re: City of London Race
The route to the E of 5 on course 9 is a main entry into the barbican - stairs and escalator. It was the route I took from 23-24 on course 6. Dont remember there being any sort of gate there.

Re: City of London Race
Enjoyed the event yesterday - a fair bit of variety on course 5 (M40+), with two visits to the Barbican (half way through and at the end). Well organised as usual and thanks go to Clif for the free samples!

The gate was a closed entrance to Moorgate station but the covered path went beyond it, round a corner and up stairs or an escalator to the square that 223 was in.

Re: City of London Race
Agree with previous commenst...a very good London race again.
Considering how the urban part of out sport has come on in recent years...last time we were in the Barbican I made a right cods of it, twice, also a major error out in the race area but was still in top ten.....this time only small cumulative hesitation errors , no major problems and I was well down. Advancing age in the age cat obviously part of it, but also nore people getting switched on to demands of urban. It used to be that a careful error free run would get you up at the top of the table now you have to be fast AND error free..
No free lunches anymore
