No. Mine is on a lanyard, but as I don't want to strangle myself, that is the best place for it.

Yes Freefall, if you were doing a proper risk assessment you wouldn't have, so called.... 'safety pins' being used. You would do what they do in tri and other major sports.... use adhesive labels or transfers direct to the arm/leg.

Even this 'whistle' issue is misdirected.... we are saying that we solve 'the problem' (whatever that problem is) by insisting on whistles being carried. But it causes other problems.

I have had five or six injuries over the years caused directly from carrying a whistle. I have had it in a small pocket on the waist band of my lightweight O bottoms, fallen over and hit the ground sustaining an injury to my hip when the lump of plastic came in contact with rock. One of the times when I carried the whistle in a rear pocket and fell over I hurt my coccyx very badly.

I have never (yet!) had cause to use my whistle to summon help. So where is the balance in this debate between dogma and common sense??????

Seem to remember that in the days of the acme thunderer, that was a no-no in case of needle deflection. Less of an issue in our plasticised modern world (that will probably have us all wearing those bras before long) but does the plastic version provide a british standard decibel count? What kind of whistle is being used in the (fantasy) world cup?

An alternative point of view is that the whistle provided added protection and prevented a much more serious injury had the rock been in direct contact with your hip.

Considering the size, shape and density of the piece of plastic plus the nature of the injured area, that would be a ridiculous conclusion to come to.

But it sort of highlights the ridiculous conclusions being drawn over the compulsory carrying of whistles. Thank you DavidJ for that insight.

I don't know what the pros use, but I have often found one of these, blown loudly, to be pretty effective at splitting up brawling Sunday league players. For what it's worth, I reckon it's quite a bit louder than I could shout.
