Looks nice - who else is going to challenge the JOK team?

It looks like and O-map, but actually its just a lidar base map. Can you spot anything that won't be on the O-map?

Re: Jukola
MAROC are taking two teams across, one full of Marocs and one with me in the team, can't wait. (although I've hardly orienteered in 2014 so could be in for a long night
)
There's something weird going on in the lake to the south of the map, islands that might actually be under water and form lines in the blue... can't imagine that will be there. Also hoping the 75m high (assuming 5m contours) conical hill to the south is missed off the map as that looks like a killer on the legs...

Not long now! Venla kicks off the action at 12 noon UK time on Saturday with Jukola at 9pm(UK) - it is going to be a great night for insomniacs with the Jukola winner due at 4.30am(UK time). Details http://www.jukola.com/2014/en/
I think Doug is running last leg for TUME - what about all the other Brits?

Anyone know if there is free GPS+TV coverage this year?
You can find what teams are registered here:
http://registration.jukola.com/?kieli=e ... 14&view=1&
Running orders has to be in by 18:00 Finnish time so I'm guessing they are in the process of entering all the names.
It looks like 10 GBR teams across Venla+Jukola (3+7) with British involvement in many others. So far for Jukola:
25 Lillomarka OL 1 - Matt Speake and Alisdair McLeod
358 Ärla IF 2 - Donald McCarthy
Presumably also
* Södertälje Nykvarn Orientering
* OK Ravinen

Re: Jukola
This year's Jukola is near Kuopio, just as it was in 1996.
That year there were around 1000 teams from just 8 countries, compared with this year's 1628 teams.
The reigning Harvester champions were the only team from the UK in 1996, and perhaps (?) the first UK club team to take part - although earlier in the 1990s both the British and Scottish squads fielded teams.
That sole GB team in 1996 was from JOK, finishing a very respectable 258th.
18 years on and back in Kuopio, JOK is sending the same seven men back for another go!
All M45s and M50s these days and a little slower than as M21s back in 1996...
Last time our Leg Seven runner arrived in time for the race after cycling half way across Scandinavia to get there. This time our Leg Seven runner is making a transatlantic dash overnight on Friday, and hoping he makes a tight connection at Heathrow on Saturday morning.....
To get round to answering Jethro's actual question, those seven men, in this year's running order, are
Jon Cross
Rob Hart
Stephen Wilson
Seamus Cunnane
John Emeleus
Pat Bartlett
Graeme Ackland
Team number is 248 which is alarmingly near the front of the leg one mass start....

Re: Jukola
248 as opposed to 900 and something in '96. I must have passed 700 people before a massive error at #1 put me close to last. So I had to pass them all again! Happy days:)
DougT, I'm coming to get you!

For TV, GPS etc see Jan's usual guide at
http://news.worldofo.com/2014/06/13/juk ... d-to-know/
and keep a lookout for a live blog.
Best wishes to JOK, and indeed everyone travelling to mid-Finland for the racing.
I see GG will be joing DougT (and graeme) on the last leg.
Interesting to see more British teams than Danish or Swiss in both Venla and Jukola.

With one on the internet and one on TV, why not watch both.

Re: Jukola
Great run by Cat, best time on Venla leg 3, taking over 38th finishing 7th, team finishing 3rd.
For tonight Doug still leg 7 for TuMe and Nick leg 2 for Ravinen 2, but lots of other changes and late news of British runners in non-British teams.
Will Gardner leg 7 for Ravinen 2.
Rob Gardner leg 7 for Södertörn 1.
GG leg 6 for Moras.
Jonny Crickmore leg 5 for Ravinen 1.
Scott Fraser leg 5 for SNO1.
Alasdair McLeod leg 5 for Lillomarka 1.
Josh Beech leg 3 for Södertörn 1.
Matt Speake leg 2 for Lillomarka 1.
Peter Hodkinson leg 1 for Södertörn 1.
Ralph Street leg 1 for SNO1.
And possibly more.
