Sprint Q underway - live services here - looks like Cat's in good form.

Something a bit odd about their course measurement, currently the leading women (3.9km - 13.46) are apparently running much faster than usual (in mins/km) and almost the same pace as the men (4.1km - 14.22)

Those distances will be actual running distance rather than straight line, but might not take climb (or maybe runnability) into consideration.

So possibilties include:
* Men have a higher %age climb on their course
* Men have more steps, off-tarmac or steeper climbs/descents
* Men have more twists and turns
* Course planners have mis-calculated the actual running distance for the Men
by doing a late change and taking the straight line distance for that leg instead
of running distance

Less likely IMO are
* The top Men are not on the optimum route (as perceived by the planners) for some legs
* The Women are indeed getting faster

nope - it's the women's course distance that's wrong - they simply can't orienteer that fast* - or if they could they'd be making rather more money on the track

* Wyder has supposedly run 3.30 mins/km (in a qualification race!) if she was on the optimum line. Tess has run 17.08 mins (~3.25 mins/km) for 5k - but that was flat, straignt, no dibbing, no navigation and racing with others

Since we are thinkging about Men's and Women's Sprint distances/times, here are the course distances for the Men Open and Women Open for the NW Sprint Champs this w/e.

Any predictions on what the winning times will be?

Distances are given as Running/straight line
Men: 3.6/2.9 and for the final 3.4/2.6
Women: 3.2/2.6 and for the final 3.0/2.3

Minimal climb, mostly grass or tarmac

Shame the courses weren't more technical as I reckon Ruth might have made the final.

Looking forward to a full strength GB team in the mixed sprint relay final tomorrow at 2.15pm, just booked in the work diary.

Edit: I think this might be 1.15pm, as Finland is on EET rather than CET. No doubt someone will know.

It is 40 to the final.
(No idea why the event page in English says it is 39!)

Startlists for the final are available now through the online results service.
GPS tracking the final will be available there too.
The final is also going to be streamed live.
Women final starts 1500 UK time.
Men final starts 1600 UK time.

The sprint relay tomorrow starts at 1315 UK time.
