Perhaps a little less challenging physically than the Harvester, but NOC's urban event at Newark this morning gave the little grey cells some exercise.
I appreciated course 3 and duly missed the 'through the courtyards' option from 14 to 15 (and possibly from 16 to 17 if the 'lock gate conundrum' had not sowed seeds of doubt - would a boat locking through alter the distance to be run?). The multi-level section from 6 to 7 through the (in-bounds) service road in the shopping centre duly seemed to confuse some. I made my route work, but in retrospect is the mapping standard? Should there be ISSOM tunnel dots on the section through the building (as opposed to a simple canopy symbol) where it is apparently not multi-level - or is it my understanding which is confused? I took another route from 11 to 12 to play safe.
Thankyou to NOC for an enjoyable event on a new and (I thought) interesting area.

Agreed.
Very good race, some interesting route choice, many of which I think I got wrong.
Didn't see the double back and go over the lock gates option on 16-17 until I got home!!

I was quite happy with the mapping of said underpass / tunnel - and I'm usually very cautious with areas like that!
Excellent event - map, courses (thanks to Rich Robinson) and weather (thanks to NOC!)
Well worthy of inclusion in the Nopesport Urban League.

Did Rich rush back from the Harvester or did he manage to delegate on the day responsibilities? Either way, agree that Course 3 was very well planned!

Re: Nopesport League at Newark
Course 3 was a stonker. Not my normal preferred style, with a high proportion of longer legs, but rather than the all too often boring slog in that situation, they all kept you thinking without let up until near the end. Got a couple of routes wrong (double backed and took the northern route 4-5, losing c. 20 secs, and went south out of 8, losing 12-15 secs plus 10 secs not paying attention to the control description at the end), and had to check a few routes on Google Earth to work out which really were the shorter. Looking forward to route gadget.
Biggest problem was coping with the heat and lack of training over the past 3 weeks - last third was really hard. No problems with the underpass route - I was happy with the way it was mapped. Only very minor issue I had was with the hedge mapping in the park behind the church - it was rather greener than shown! Well worth the trip down (and nice to be able to get there by train on a Sunday - not easy with first not leaving local station until 9.30). Many thanks to all concerned - this is my third experience of Richard's planning, and they've all been superb.

Is it going on Routegadget, does anyone know? It's a pity if it isn't, because there were some very good route-choice legs (course 2), and it would be interesting to see what others did.

Routegadget is up BUT ... I had problems saving my GPS track. RG2 told me it had failed - "Your route failed to save. Please try again. Bad gateway" - whereas it had, in fact, been saved on every attempt. Hence, the twenty-two entries on course 2.
It will have to be taken down and re-uploaded, I fear.

Ditto, but I only tried 6 times. I didn't get any error message though.

The error messages arrived several minutes later, while I was trying again (and again).

Course 3 seems to give the right course when plotting (but would not save even for a manual plot) but another course altogether when viewing (though other peoples' tracks seem to follow correct course).
PS How does one 'undo' an erroneous plot point? Was easy on RG1, but cannot find right key or button on RG2.

For manual routes, there's an undo button beneath the comments box, alongside "3+" and "save", for GPS tracks, you right-click or control-click on the mark.

Re: Nopesport League at Newark
I've added my route through RG2 seemed to work fine.
I thought Course 2 was excellent and have seen many better route choices than the ones I took, but I did find the greyed out service road confusing. Was it below ground?
I accessed this through NOC's website. Why is there no link to NOC's routegadget through the Routegadget website. This was the same for Ely and WAOC's event.

I've added my GPS route, but it also appeared not to save correctly. In reality, it had saved, 6 times.
