Well I was enjoying the RG2 developments until today. I run the SROC website and post most of our events to RG, and have been adding various links to RG1 and RG2 since the latter became available. I have been thanked by one or two people who prefer to use RG1, but now it just looks like I don't know how to add a link properly since all my RG1 links now point to RG2!
I also seem to have missed the explanation of how to log in as manager to RG2. I've watched the video which looks great, and a better interface than RG1 for creating events, but that starts by logging in without saying how to get to that point.

OK I've now found the instructions for logging in on GitHub. Couldn't log in at first but after deleting the rg2userinfo.txt file which was dated in March some time (who added that?) I have now been successful.

Re: RouteGadget unpopular?
I've now had a further look at how to access RG1 and come up with a better solution. The revised workarounds are:
1) for the index page change reitti.cgi to RG1reitti.cgi, so for example http://www.happyherts.routegadget.co.uk ... reitti.cgi
2) for a specific event change reitti.cgi to RG1reitti.cgi, so for example use http://www.happyherts.routegadget.co.uk ... 156&kieli=
The remaining catch is that clicking a link to an event on the RG1 index page will still go to RG2. One solution is to copy the link and then manually edit it to add RG1 as above. The alternative is to click on the "latest routes" link which will start RG1 correctly.

Re: RouteGadget unpopular?
It looks great, especially the manager screens which look much easier to use than RouteGadget 1. Only problem is I can't seem to log in to it - I'm using the version of the url that pops up towards the end of the video (amended to my club) which gets me to a login screen but does recognise my RG1 manger username and password - should this work on the RouteGadget UK site? Couldn't find anything on GitHub that helps me.
Also, does it recognise IOF XML 3.0 format course files (as now exported by default from CONDES 9)? Just found out the hard way that RG1 doesn't!

Is there anywhere a simple explanation of routegadget (eg video or document) and how to get started using it?

All http://www.club.routegadget.co.uk sites have been set up with a dummy password file. The first thing you will need to do is log on via FTP and delete the kartat/rg2userinfo.txt file. The RG1 and RG2 user names and passwords are completely separate. I've updated the wiki to make this a bit more obvious.

It should do, and I have tried it with Condes 9 successfully. But there may be some strange configurations which cause trouble, in which case email me the XML file and I can have a look. The XML results are much worse since nearly everything can be missing but the file is still technically valid.

The situation as of last night was like this, but the best place to start now is probably with this list of RG2 resources.

On my Windows 7 / IE9 laptop all I see on the JK2014 RG2 site is a blank white screen
IE9 is the culprit here. A simple upgrade to IE10 or IE11 should do the trick as IE9 does not support HTML5, needed for RG2.
Unfortunately not. Having upgraded to IE11 I still just see a blank white screen beneath the RouteGadget2 header, when I click on the routegadget link for a specific day. This isn't unique to the JK site - from the routegadget.co.uk site, selecting any of the "Clubs using RG UK" sites, I just get a blank white screen when I would expect to see a list of events.
For the "Clubs with their own Routegadget" list I can see a list of events - but selecting any of them causes IE11 to fall over!

There are some debug functions built into IE11 which might help. Press the F12 function key. This brings up the developer tools. I've no idea how standard the layout is, but I get a column of icons on the bottom left of the screen. One of those is a left arrow in a rectangle. If you click on this it should bring up the console screen.
If you now try to load one of the problem RG2 sites the console will display any errors you are getting.
There is also a Network icon just below the console icon. If you click on this you will see all the network traffic. If there are problems then they may show up here in red as file load errors or similar.

All of the links in that part of the list are still to RG1 installations. I guess this is a Java problem on your PC.

Just tried this myself with IE11. For clubs using RG UK, it seemed to work correctly (I tried JK and TVOC). For the rest, I got the RG1 version, which was then blocked by security settings (which is probably what I would have expected).

Re: RouteGadget unpopular?
You should not get any java blocked by security settings alerts if RG1 is up to date.
Most of the actively used RG1 sites has updated version. Routegadget UK is the biggest remaining chunk of sites still running the old version and for some reason choosing not to update. Those outdated sites showing up at wordofo and elsewhere was annoying bad publicity, that's why I hoped those sites getting at least terminated/redirected if not updated. It is better now, but still I don't understand why seeing all to the trouble to rename cgi files and such. If you like to keep RG1 accessible just update to the latest version, and if not just shut it down.

Re: RouteGadget unpopular?
The reason why Routegadget UK hasn't updated RG1 is that there are over 70 individual installations and I don't have the time to do so and I don't see the need. When you didn't plan to do any updating to RG to remove the dependence on Java, Simon started work on developing RG2. So after all that work the focus is on getting everyone using RG2.
I'm not sure if it's a good idea for Routegadget UK to try and offer both services at the same time, it will just lead to confusion.

Re: RouteGadget unpopular?
From a purely practical perspective I like routegadget but I've had to have a couple of goes at uploading my routes for the Glasgow City race onto RG2 today at work as it was taking so long. There still seems to be the issue where click/drag and click your route get mixed up - its really really frustrating especially if you have a wireless mouse - maybe due to the connectivity? I'm sure I read somewhere that someone was looking into this - its still the same though.

I think that I'm getting a bit confused.
