Event Enhancements - Highland 2015
There is a possibility of funding for the International Development Programme at next year's Scottish 6 Days. If anyone has ideas how we might make the event more attractive, especially to competitors outside Scotland (yes that includes rest of the UK) I am interested. Previous funding has gone towards big screen, GPS tracking, live video production, promotional video, economic impact study, satellite internet etc.

How about developing, marketing and delivering an "orienteering experience" package primarily to non-orienteers that would include attendance at a day, with a tutorial on orienteering and the maps, spectating at a WOC race with knowledgeable orienteers to act as hosts and answer questions, the chance to try the sport, and some appropriate hospitality. This could even be a corporate package.

Wouldn't mind an orienteering experience myself and from my recent performances I can almost count myself as a non-orienteer!

Oldman that idea has legs - could consider something along these lines.

I think organising an incredibly slick, well polished world championships to spectate at would be a pretty good enhancement that you don't normally get chance to do...

You could even throw in a goody bag of inappropriate lycra for them to try on, just so they can feel like a 'normal' orienteer...

Sadly bureaucracy probably means the money has to be used for 6days

Looking at another thread, wifi that allows you to upload your route to RouteGadget from the arena using your smartphone? After last start times, obviously...
