In 2010 GBR had full teams at JWOC and JEC. At EYOC 2010 GBR had 12 athletes (out of a possible 16).

If anyone here has complaints about the Performance Programme, then as a BOF member you should direct your concerns to the Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board. I'm wording my email right now.

Street: so what you are saying is for the last 4 years we are have not sent full teams, and by recent practises/threads (last year and this year) it looks very unlikely we ever will again, bodes well to keep our talented athletes committed to an amateur sport
How many knock backs/barking selection decisions do you think it will take until they say feck it!
And just to round off those not selected, who many on her commented should/could have been selected for jwoc were NOT contacted by SH explaining why, whereas others who were selected were told by text message - you can't make it up.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
fair point Mr Cameron and a good find, I had looked on World of O and could not find anything.
Can I raise a point of when these selections are announced, many of the athletes who were successful or not are now in the midst of revision for A level's or University exams. Those who were succesful will be dreaming of running for GBR etc whereas the non selected will be going over why/what could I have done better.
If the EOC team was selected in October for a competition in April and the WUOC team has selection races in March for a competition in August why put the juniors through the added torment of announcing selections at this time or even having the selections at the JK at all.
Why not have a dedicated weekend for juniors selections, that would be for M/W16 - M/W20 (to include summer tours) at a time in the year beneficial to the juniors (and not the behest of the selectors). Set the weekend in the calendar (e.g. February - announce selections in March) and therefore those who wish to be considered for selection have a date/race to aim for - outside of exam season and this date remains a constant in the calendar.
Friday night Sprint
Saturday Middle
Sunday Long

Thatmay be a little tough on northerners during snowy winters - of which there have been at least 2 in the past 5 years what with deep snow in forests and cancelled events - February is not really the best time to encourage peaking.

The JK is at Easter on a bank holiday, and I imagine most EYOC/JWOC candidates would attend it anyway. Especially those who are younger and at school might find it harder and more stressful to have selection races in the middle of term time. Also given when it gets dark in February a Friday sprint would probably mean missing a day of school or uni for the athlete, and missing a day of work for the parent who has to take them. It's easier for athletes and their families to use the JK pragmatically as it won't clash with anything.
The timing might not be ideal in terms of exams, but anyone in the EYOC/JWOC team will have to deal with exams in the build up to the races anyway, given GCSEs and A levels don't finish until the end of June, so it's not something that can be avoided.
February is probably also less appropriate in terms of picking the best athletes. It is harder to see who will be in good shape for a race in July if you have selection races in February rather than April, when athletes are in a different phase of training. Also, the chances of injuries between selection races and JWOC/EYOC, or of someone who was beaten at the selection races turning up and beating everyone in the team at the JK/British, thereby embarassing the selectors and the athletes, increases the further out you hold the test races.
The JK probably isn't ideal, given that some areas are less relevant or appropriate for selection than others, and as you say the selection announcements are at an unfortunate time. But it's hard to see that earlier races are a realistic solution.

What I am saying is that as far as I know Britain as never sent a full team to JWOC, EYOC, and JEC in the same year. The nearest I believe we came to this was 2010.
The last time a full team was not taken to JWOC was 2007 (Australia). Before around 2008/09 GBR, as a rule, did not send 16's to EYOC. One could potentially say that sending a full team to EYOC is as rare as not sending a full team to JWOC.
In my experience (pre 2010) it was very rare to send top year 20's to JEC (because it was seen as a feeder into JWOC for the next year). 2011 and 2012 saw very small self funded teams go.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
In 2011 and 2012 BOF had no interest in JEC, hence the self-selected and self-funded teams.
In 2013 JROS offered to take on the organisation of the teams and use it as part of the athlete development between the Regional Junior Squads and the Talent Squad. BOF didn't like this, took it under their own control, and then sent just five Juniors. What a wasted opportunity.
It looks like 2014 is going down the same path.

I assume that you refer to our ex-BOF chairman rather than our current PM. I am, however, neither of these two gentlemen.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
Can I just re-iterate that if you have a problem with this selection debacle, please can you email BOF? While moaning about things like this online might be great to vent, those who can actually change things won't take much from it. A pile of well thought out and presented emails may be more likely to bring it to their attention...
I'd suggest including some of the real powers-that-be in BOF as well as the selectors themselves.
Selectors email addresses (performance section)
Board of Directors addresses

On another note entirely. I don't suppose anyone has any maps of areas around Strumica, Macedonia?
