It really has to be a join the dots exercise, ie use the existing controls and codes but in a different order. Might produce a better finish to the longish 3-4/6-7 leg.
I suspect that publishing the map will not have produced too many surprises and that the primary tactic will still be to set the compass and go.

What could possibly go wrong!
Well, there could be confusion about whether the starts are delayed 1 hour, or 2 hours?

Announcement says first start now 10 GMT, which is 11 local (GMT+1), which is 2 hours after the original 9 local as planned. But perhaps they mean 10 local...

Re: Europeans
I hope they tell the control collectors about the delayed start
Meanwhile some interesting analysis of the long qualifiers
it's a good thing the IOF don't want to get in the Olympics...

Re: Europeans
Replanning probably isn't too much of an issue, I (and cooperative controllers) usually have a few control sites that ended up dropping out and a few legs we reluctantly lost in favour of others, so they drop back in and clockwise becomes anti-clockwise that sort of thing. What I do wonder about is map printing - presumably at this level they should be offset litho?
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Europeans
The web site seems to be struggling under the strain and the races haven't even started yet. If anyone gets snippets of results can they post them here - I'll do likewise.

Re: Europeans
What a shame. I'd planned leaking bogus WOC courses, and thought they'd beaten me to it.
This may be a wake up call to IOF that its not just about TV.
On the other hand, IOF are quite capable of buggering up their own TV coverage with their ridiculous new ranking list. Women's winner Signe Soes ran without GPS, and wouldn't have been covered in any TV window, all because of using the new ranking list for the starts (as they will at WOC). It's not a problem with ranking per se: under the old WRE system she would have had a perfectly sensible ranking in the "red group" with tracking etc..
I wonder if they'll still have 23+ km?

Map on the live tracking says men 20.3km, women 13.3km. Under 90 mins winning time for men I should think.

Re: Europeans
The first radio control is not working and only the later 30 starters have gps tracking. The live streaming is working for me with the courses and tracking.

Maybe they decided their original courses were in fact too long, planned these ones then leaked the longer ones so they didn't have to use them.

Re: Europeans
Course lengths had gone down to 20.6 and 13.2 by the time Bulletin 4 was published pre-competition, so the hastily planned new ones are very similar in distance to what was expected.
Why did I do that...

Is it just me or is the map resolution so poor that it's unreadable?

Re: Europeans
The livestream quality is pretty crap, but they are taking the tracking straight from tractrac, so go there and watch instead:
