Indeed. Much more than you might think. Although (I believe) BO employees are forbidden to post it doesn't mean they aren't reading and acting on what's here. The same goes for committees. It's essential for any organisation to have a dissenting forum.

AFAIK.
Ravinous and CompassSport, like the rest of us, are big fans of Nopesport and have no wish to undermine it by putting on a rival BB. It's still possible that someone has a vision for nopesport and will take it over, and they can do this safe in the knowledge that CompassSport won't set up in competition. But, if no buyer is found, and nopesport does close, then CompassSport will set up a BOF-independent BB in the spirit of this forum.

In fact, over at RaceTheCastles.com we got ready to set up a BB too, but in discussion with Nick/Rav we agreed this would be a third-best option after continued nope and compasssport.

Long, long ago there was rec.sport.orienteering. Long ago there was a BB at
PeelLandSurveys. Now we have nopesport. All we can say about the future is that there will be one.

Regarding the continuation of Nopesport or something similar, I've been asked to post the following message

"....as nopesport is currently not approving forum registrations the sooner something changes, the better for people who haven't been around for a long time, so that we can all contribute to discussions."

Hi everyone - I know there are approximately 1000 active members... and I am looking for about a dozen to step forward with £100 each to support the buying out of Nopesport. There is a team of young enthusiastic and above all technically competent guys prepared to run the service, but they don't have any cash to do this.

Won't any new 'owners' have to pick up ongoing costs as well?
- periodic domain name registration fee
- BB software (advert-free version)
- server capacity for simultaneous access by n users
- more?

I have no idea what these cost, but guess the founders might have been funding some of it themselves, given the minimal advertising on the site.

I'm happy to pick up annual running costs - or maybe advertising will provide enough to cover this.
The main issue is getting enough to cover buying cost. My view is that anyone who contributes would be a part-owner of Nopesport, but that the "editors" would have complete freedom to do what they wish (within certain limits - eg libel).
