Perhaps taking a bicycle is to be recommended?

I notice that the JK is producing multiple editions of the supposedly "final" details...! Surely the concept is redundant anyway in the days of updateable websites rather than pieces of paper in the post
The reality is that it's called "Event Programme, Final Details and World Ranking Event Bulletin 2" - so not just "final details"! Perhaps we could have omitted the word "final" for issues 1 and 2 to be strictly accurate ...
Updatable websites are great ... but they're not so great when clubs issue revised race details at the last minute without telling you. We are trying to avoid this mistake by issuing three clearly labelled issues of the details, the third and last being the one which is definitive.
One small success of this policy is that we discovered the BOF AGM membership card error thanks to posting issue 1 online.
And there won't be any pieces of paper in the post either as we are asking all competitors to print out their own copies beforehand in deference to the observation that this is what most competitors do anyway.

Re: JK 2014
My only concern is the big walking distances to/from event arena each day.
A map of the day 2/3 layout would have been useful, but reading the day 3 details it looks as though you could have a 3km walk from parking to assembly then another 3km to the Far start. Is this correct ?

Re: JK 2014
I can't work out day 3 either. It says 3km from parking to start but doesn't specify where assembly is. I have asked for and been given a priority parking pass but don't know if this will be nearer assembly than normal parking.
What are pictorial descriptions?

Have pity on the W85/W90's -- on Day 3 they, apparently, start "Near Elite", wherever
that is. Or does it mean they are "near Elite" as opposed to mere mortals ?.

We will try to clarify this in the next issue.

Re: JK 2014
From BOF News today:
Issue 1 of the Final Details may now be downloaded from the link below. There will be 2 subsequent issues published on the 28th March and the 8th April. Updates and changes will be made clear.
The purpose of putting these up with 4 weeks still to go, is to give Competitors an opportunity to plan their weekend and if necessary make any adjustment to their entry and additional requirements before the final closing date of the 30th March.
and it is having the additional benefit of allowing the organising team to clarify any items that are unclear from the first issue. So a great idea for an event as complex as the JK.

Can someone confirm that the routes used from parking to assembly are suitable for bikes? I'm tempted.

Yes - suitable for bikes on Days 2/3, although you'll be sharing the road with walking competitors.

Issue 2 of the Event Programme/"Final" Details is now posted on the JK Info page at http://www.thejk.org.uk/jk2014/index.php?pg=246. The question regarding access to the Day 3 Starts is now addressed there, amongst other updates.
And a final reminder that the closing date for entries is 11.59 pm this Sunday! 2945 to date.

Having looked at the Relay course information I wished to alter one of our teams to Mens Short. I attempted to do this via the SI entries website on Saturday 29th March, but couldn't work out how to do this. I have subsequently sent two emails to the JK organiser and had no reply. There is no phone number otherwise I would try phoning.
I am sure that this should be possible, and the closing date for Relay entries is not until 6th April. Can anyone advise?

There is only one competitor at this Start so I'm guessing that the Start official will take her there, set her off and then return to the arena.

I've been a teensy bit busy, but it's all sorted now. (The online entry system does not allow team captains to change the class, but I can do that quite simply - it's not a problem).

Any news on the impact (if any) of the grass fire?
The planners were on the area checking control site taping on Tuesday. We can confirm that the fire did not get as far as the competition areas.
