Congratulations to the planning team for yesterday's Thirsk Urban event. I thought my Course B was extremely well planned ... featuring a mega-leg 2-3 and requiring careful attention throughout. It's not surprising Routegadget so far shows plenty of variety.
Top job.

Agree entirely - I ran course B too, and it was a great example of good urban planning. I had to check a fair number of routes on Google Earth when I got home to check which were shortest.
2-3: slightly shorter to keep left/west through the market square and approach from the bridge to the north; about 30-35m difference.
4-5: southern route shortest (I was fairly sure of this, but one or two challenged me on this at the event)
12: left/west through the small park
14: west/right hand route shortest
16: north
18: left/east route (I missed seeing the gate in the fence on the edge of the circle and went right - about 10 secs slower)

Yes excellent planning. Looking at the map beforehand I thought we'd been over-sold on the technical nature of the terrain, but the planning made best use of the area for the long and junior courses.
Perhaps the timing could have been better - 12 to 2 on market day! Didn't really spoil it for the runners, but much more likely to have an accident or upset the locals which could easily damage the future use of the area or
Also I understand there was a gap in an uncrossable boundary which quite a few runners used to escape from the 'trap' on 7 on the long course. Obviously you can't police the whole area but where there's a specific trap its worth putting up tape or a sign on the day.
Really good event though - a fine example for others to follow.
