It's that time of year again and I have the usual dilemma (living roughly in the middle of the UK): go to the Scottish Champs or the southern alternative, this year the Tamar Triple? Roughly equal travel time, but quite different offerings.
Tamar Triple appears to be 4 individual races over 3 days, including one urban. Also the chance to run at Fernworthy for the first time since 1979.
The Scottish is just an individual and a relay. Usually I'd expect top notch terrain when going all the way to Scotland. This year the individual appears to have moved from Linn of Tummel (pretty good from my memory) to Dalnamein which is a new area to me. A little research has come up with the map:

I'm not inspired.
Come on Scots; persuade me to head your way at the end of May rather than Devon!

Re: Scottish Champs 2014
The midges are not normally out by May so it should be a good chance to visit Perthshire midge free!
What are pictorial descriptions?

Re: Scottish Champs 2014
The forest is really nice and runnable - green bits are low-vis but clean underfoot. The east end has good contour detail, west open section is nicely runnable, uphill legs are easy, downhill diagonals less so - so depends on the planning.
And it's in UKOL
Dalnamein was also used for SHI relays 2008 where the English took a good cuffing. Newtyle (SRC) was also JKrelay 2012 where SYO bagged a total of zero senior medals. So no surprise if you're still scared of it

I was copied in on an email from the SOA Operations Director on 2 March. His comments were "Ken (Daly) & I spent 3 hours in Dalnamein yesterday - BEAUTIFUL !!!!!" Coming from Terry that is indeed high praise.
Fac et Spera. Views expressed are not necessarily those of the Scottish 6 Days Assistant Coordinator

Dalnamein is special. It feels truly wild and as Graeme says is exceptionally runnable - definitely a real challenge - one of my favourite areas.

Re: Scottish Champs 2014
OK, so I'm getting slightly more tempted...
No one from DEVON or KERNO want to put the alternative view?
..and where I was injured and therefore not running. Otherwise of course we'd have won one medal
