I've just got the map from Mr Taylor and nearly finished planning it so it's definitely on!

Re: York City Race
I always thought this race looked great, and easily accessible by train from the north. Is there any chance of having on a weekend one year?
Coming soon
Boston City Race (May, maybe not)
Coasts and Islands (Shetland)

Re: York City Race
I'll put it to the committee as they say. The advantages are obvious but...... it would have to be Sunday as Saturdays in York are just too busy (bank holiday Monday is pretty crowded but not too bad before 11am). And if we dropped our bank holiday Monday slot even for one year, we'd never get it back as there are so many people wanting to use the square we have as our regular assembly/finish. Next year we have a B event in Gilling so what about Saturday teatime??? No good as it would have to be in the crowded time before the deliveries start in the pedestrian area or no junior courses (the lorries drive on the pavements never mind the roads). Not easy....

Nice to know that there's at least one advantage living in England! I like the York race being on Bank Holiday Monday. You'll just have to wait for retirement Graeme: just as we are to be able to get to a whole host of races that are scheduled awkwardly for our current state.

Re: York City Race
Of all the urban races I've done, York has been by far the busiest and it has been getting worse.
Must be worth trying on a Sunday for at least one year, there is a definite advantage to starting early as it stands, which clearly isn't possible or achievable for everyone.
Not quite sure how many deliveries take place on a Saturday evening but the other problem is outdoor drinkers, as seen in Halifax last year.
Obviously this would require CLARO to move their Sunday event too but hopefully this could be arranged.

Me too! It fits in nicely as a race to do on the way back from the Scottish Champs/Relays.

You've obviously never run in the Venice race. York is positively empty comparatively! There's quite a few races where early starts are an advantage. Cambridge jumps to mind (never mind the bomb alert this year!).

Why should they? The two make a really good package, certainly enough for me to have stayed local for the past few years. I don't see how Claro being asked to move their event improves the weekend's programme (nor any reason why they should). They have provided an excellent series of races in different venues (new map of Harrogate this year I gather) for those who want a race nearby on the Sunday.

Er, because both races would then be on the Sunday!
A simple swap would suffice seeing as the CLARO areas are less busy.
I just think the quality of the event would be improved if it were on the Sunday.

No they wouldn't. If Claro didn't want to move, I don't see Ebor twanting o move their event to clash.

My point was that you make a big assumption. Just because you want to compete in York on a Sunday because it's too crowded for your taste (my experience of the centre of York on a Sunday is that it's not a lot less crowded, and, for instance, Bank Holiday Harrogate isn't exactly quiet), suddenly two clubs are to move their fixtures, both of which are proving successful as they are, assuming they can (there's an issue of permissions, and Ebor have pretty much got their race established on BHM. Trying to establish in other towns on busy days mightn't be so straightforward). As yted says, once the Bank Holiday Monday is lost, it's likely never to be retrieved, and anyway it's only later on it tends to get crowded, and a lot less so than other venues I've enjoyed. Even then, my experience of the York event, even starting later, is that it's a very small proportion of the race that is potentially effected - most of the races tend to be out of the centre, only coming in to the middle towards the end, and even at that stage I've not had a major problem (probably down to good planning).
What Ebor might think about is doing what the Venice race does, and marking in a different brown the streets that are particularly affected? It works quite well there.
Of course, if the two clubs both wanted each other's dates......!

Re: York City Race
I'm fully aware of issues surrounding permissions, clubs preferences etc.
I wasn't assuming anything, merely making a suggestion .
I guess I'll keep my thoughts to myself in future

It wasn't the idea of clubs swapping to mutual benefit- it was the implication, intended or otherwise, that Claro should just move over.

Flyer now on EBOR website

Planning finished but why do I always forget to check one gripple point? Still it's only 1km from home - forgetting one in Scarbrough was a bit more serious!
Hoping for EPOC weather on the 26th May.....
